Choose by your main use: the fēnix 8 is the versatile rugged option, Enduro 3 prioritizes long battery life for extended outings, and Forerunner 970 suits frequent runners and triathletes who want a lighter AMOLED watch. Consider fēnix 8 Pro if you need its satellite or LTE-related functions and Garmin’s service is available where you plan to use it. Before choosing, compare the exact size, display, solar configuration and model—not just the family name.
Which Garmin flagship best matches your activities?
| Your priority | Family to consider | Why it may fit |
|---|---|---|
| Rugged, versatile multisport use and a choice of sizes | fēnix 8 | Garmin positions it as a rugged, dive-rated multisport watch, with selected AMOLED and solar variants and multiple case sizes. |
| Very long outings and battery life | Enduro 3 | Garmin emphasizes endurance; its stated smartwatch estimate is up to 36 days, or up to 90 days with solar. |
| Frequent running, triathlon and a lighter AMOLED watch | Forerunner 970 | Garmin describes it as designed for triathletes and frequent runners. The listed weight is 56 g, and smartwatch battery life is estimated at up to 15 days. |
| Satellite SOS or messaging, or LTE calling and messaging | fēnix 8 Pro | Garmin’s comparison marks these as Pro features. Their use is subject to subscription and regional coverage restrictions. |
| Mapping and multi-band GPS | Compare the exact model | Garmin lists built-in mapping and multi-band GPS for the Forerunner 970, Enduro 3 and fēnix 8 Pro 47 mm AMOLED in the cited comparison. Confirm the precise model and map coverage you need. |
How do the battery estimates compare?
Garmin’s figures are manufacturer estimates for smartwatch mode, not independently measured results. They vary with model, display and configuration; actual endurance depends on use and settings. The fēnix 8 Pro figure is for a specific 47 mm AMOLED model, so it should not be treated as a generic fēnix 8 specification.

What trade-offs matter beyond battery?
Size, weight and fit
The fēnix 8 comes in multiple sizes, and weight varies by size. Selected versions offer AMOLED or solar charging lenses, so confirm the exact case and display variant rather than assuming all fēnix 8 watches are alike. Garmin lists the Forerunner 970 at 56 g, making it a candidate if a lighter running and triathlon watch is a priority. Enduro 3 is positioned around endurance; assess its fit and configuration against your needs.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Water resistance is not the same as a dive rating
Garmin’s comparison lists 5 ATM water ratings for the Forerunner 970 and Venu X1, and 10 ATM for the Enduro 3 and fēnix 8. It separately lists a 4 ATM dive rating for fēnix 8. These labels are not interchangeable: do not infer a dive rating from an ATM water rating. Check the exact model’s current specifications if diving is part of your use.
Connected safety features
The fēnix 8 Pro’s satellite and LTE-related capabilities are not universally available or subscription-free. Garmin notes that active subscriptions and regional coverage restrictions apply. Check service availability and plan requirements for the country and routes where you expect to rely on them before choosing Pro for connectivity.

How to narrow the choice before buying
- Start with your primary activity. Put running and triathlon first for Forerunner 970, extended outings and endurance first for Enduro 3, or rugged multisport and size choice first for fēnix 8.
- Decide whether Pro connectivity is essential. If satellite or LTE-related functions matter, verify coverage and subscription conditions for your location; otherwise, do not pay attention to the Pro label alone.
- Compare exact configurations. Check case size, AMOLED versus solar, always-on display where relevant, water and dive ratings, and the battery estimate for that specific SKU.
- Confirm navigation fit. Verify that the exact model includes the mapping and multi-band GPS features you want, and check map coverage for your intended destinations.
- Use Garmin’s current comparison and product pages to confirm details. Product options, estimates, features and service availability may change by model and region.
Garmin’s product-selection page summarizes the Forerunner 970 as “A watch designed for triathletes and frequent runners, featuring a lightweight build and AMOLED display,” and the fēnix 8 as “Rugged, dive-rated watches with flashlights and AMOLED displays or solar charging lenses.” Those are Garmin’s positioning statements, not independent test findings.
