Check compatibility and fit before buying
Apple says its Ocean Band, Alpine Loop, and Trail Loop are 49 mm straps designed for Apple Watch Ultra and later during rugged activities such as hiking, running, climbing, kiteboarding, and diving. Check the product listing against your exact watch generation before ordering: Apple’s band compatibility guidance.
Apple Watch Ultra can also use 44 mm, 45 mm, and 46 mm bands, but Apple says those sizes are for casual, everyday use only. For rugged activity, choose a 49 mm band listed for Ultra rather than assuming that a band that attaches will be appropriate for the activity.

Measure the wearer’s wrist and compare it with the current size chart and the seller’s specific listing. TechRadar lists Alpine Loop in S, M, and L, but labels alone are not enough: use the actual wrist range for the band you are considering. Third-party brands do not have established, consistent sizing labels across the available comparisons.
Attach the band correctly
Apple’s guidance is to align the band lug parallel to the watch case before inserting it, then push it gently toward the case with the metal tooth facing down. If the band does not slide or lock into place as expected, do not force it.

Consider comfort, bulk, and cleaning
Textile bands can be comfortable for land activities, but sweat, dust, and mud can build up in the material. Apple advises wiping Alpine Loop and Trail Loop with a non-abrasive, lint-free cloth; if needed, lightly dampen the cloth with fresh water or use mild hypoallergenic hand soap. Do not use alcohol wipes on fabric or leather bands, and let the band dry before reattaching it. See Apple’s band cleaning instructions.
Ocean Band’s water-sports orientation comes with a bulkier feel that may be less comfortable for daily or overnight wear. If you plan to wear one band both in and out of the water, consider whether that trade-off suits your routine rather than choosing solely by water resistance.
