The Longines Spirit automatic comes in 37 mm, 40 mm and 42 mm case sizes. To choose among them, compare each watch’s lug-to-lug length with the flat top of your wrist, then consider comfort and how much visual presence you want. Wrist circumference can help with bracelet adjustment, but it cannot tell you by itself which case size will fit best.
What sizes does the Longines Spirit come in?
Longines’ standard Spirit automatic lineup includes 37 mm, 40 mm and 42 mm options. The official product pages identify the 37 mm model as reference L3.410.4.53.6, the 40 mm as L3.810.4.53.6, and the 42 mm as L3.811.4.53.6. Model availability and assortment can vary by country and change over time, so check the relevant Longines regional listing for the model you are considering.

| 37 mm | L3.410.4.53.6 | Monochrome-Watches reported approximately 46.5–47 mm lug-to-lug and 11.7 mm thick in its 2022 review. These are secondary measurements, not Longines specifications. |
| 40 mm | L3.810.4.53.6 | Fratello Watches reported 49.6 mm lug-to-lug in its 2022 review. This is a secondary measurement, not a Longines specification. |
| 42 mm | L3.811.4.53.6 | The cited official listing confirms the diameter; a reliable lug-to-lug measurement for this standard model is not established here. |
Longines’ official Spirit 37 mm model listing and Spirit 40 mm and 42 mm model listings establish the example references and case diameters. The review-reported dimensions add context: a watch’s footprint across the wrist can be substantial even when its headline diameter sounds modest.

Case diameter is the width of the watch case, but the lugs—the parts that extend from either end of the case—also affect how much wrist space the watch occupies. Lug-to-lug length is therefore useful when assessing whether a watch will sit across the top of your wrist. The Spirit 37’s reported 46.5–47 mm span illustrates why a smaller diameter does not automatically mean a compact fit.

Look at the shape of your wrist as well as its circumference. Two wrists with the same circumference can differ in how much flat surface they offer across the top. A longer lug span may sit comfortably on one wrist and overhang the edges of another. The 40 mm Spirit’s 49.6 mm review-reported span is worth comparing directly with your wrist rather than assuming that 40 mm is a universal middle-ground choice.
For the 42 mm version, the cited official page confirms the case size, but the available sources do not establish a reliable lug-to-lug figure. Assess the actual watch on your wrist rather than inferring its full footprint from the diameter alone.

How to compare the sizes on your wrist
- Measure where the watch will sit. Measure your wrist circumference at that point. If possible, also measure the flatter surface across the top of your wrist; that width is more directly useful for comparing a case’s lug span.
- Use lug-to-lug measurements as a guide. Compare your wrist’s top surface with the review-reported spans for the 37 mm and 40 mm models, keeping in mind that the figures are independent 2022 measurements. Do not treat them as an official Longines fit chart.
- Check how the watch sits. If the lugs extend past the top plane of your wrist, or the case rocks over the wrist’s edge, try the next smaller size or consider a different strap configuration.
- Try both contenders with the intended bracelet or strap. View each watch from above and from the side. Bend your wrist and check whether the case or crown presses into your hand.
- Choose the look you prefer. Some wearers want the watch to fill more of the wrist; others prefer a more restrained appearance. That preference is personal, not a manufacturer-prescribed sizing rule.
Which size should you try first?
Try the 37 mm Spirit if you want a smaller case diameter
The 37 mm is the smallest listed option, but its review-reported lug-to-lug span is approximately 46.5–47 mm. Check whether that length stays within the top plane of your wrist; do not assume that the diameter alone guarantees a compact fit.

Compare the 40 mm Spirit with your wrist width
The 40 mm model has a Fratello-reported lug-to-lug length of 49.6 mm. If you are choosing between 37 mm and 40 mm, trying both on the same wrist is more informative than treating the 40 mm as an automatic compromise.

Try the 42 mm Spirit for its larger presence
The 42 mm is the largest of these three case diameters. Because a reliable lug-to-lug measurement is not established in the cited sources, judge its fit on the wrist rather than using an assumed span or a fixed wrist-size threshold.
Does wrist circumference tell you which Spirit size to buy?
No official Longines chart in the cited material maps wrist circumference to a Spirit case diameter. Longines’ bracelet sizing guide addresses bracelet circumference and suggests leaving room for a finger; it does not say which case diameter suits a particular wrist measurement. Use circumference to help adjust the bracelet, and use the watch’s footprint, wrist shape and an on-wrist try-on to decide among case sizes.

Do the movement specifications affect the fit choice?
Longines’ example 37 mm, 40 mm and 42 mm Spirit models are automatic stainless-steel watches with up to 72 hours of power reserve. The company describes the Spirit as drawing on traditional aviator-watch features and says its movements use silicon balance-springs and are COSC chronometer-certified. Those specifications may matter to your buying decision, but they do not indicate which case will fit your wrist best. See Longines’ 37 mm product page and Spirit collection page for the listed model details.
