To clean a resin G-SHOCK band, rinse it with water, wipe it dry with a soft cloth, and keep solvents and other harsh chemicals away from it. Rinse it promptly after seawater or mud, and do not store it damp. That routine covers dirt and moisture. It cannot undo the hardening, cracking, or stickiness that come with an aging resin band, and those conditions call for replacement.
Cleaning a resin band step by step
- Rinse the band under clean running water to remove sweat, dust, and grit from the surface and the keeper area.
- Wipe the band dry with a soft cloth. Casio’s English manual gives the basic method in one line: “For a resin band, wash with water and then wipe dry with a soft cloth.” (CASIO Support, Precautions Module No. 3582)
- Let the band air-dry in a ventilated place before you put the watch back on or store it.
A soft, absorbent cloth is all the official guidance calls for. Casio does not describe abrasive pads, polishing compounds, or chemical spot treatments as safe for resin, so the soft-cloth method is the one to follow.
Rinsing after seawater or mud
Casio’s manual asks you to rinse the watch with clean fresh water after it has been exposed to seawater or mud. Salt and silt that dry on a resin band can sit in the grooves and around the case-band joint, so rinse those areas as well as the outer face. Do this as soon as practical rather than waiting until the next scheduled clean.
Drying, sweat, and storage
Moisture is the variable that does the most damage over time. Casio’s English manual for Module 5732 warns that leaving sweat or water on resin, or storing the watch in a high-moisture area, can lead to premature wear, cuts, and breaks (Module 5732 English manual, PDF).

Casio’s Japanese-language resin care guidance (CASIO, Resin Band Care) adds three practical habits:
- Wash away sweat and dirt after wearing the watch.
- Wipe off surface moisture, then let the band dry in a ventilated place.
- Avoid leaving the band damp for long periods, and keep it out of prolonged direct sunlight and humid storage.
Casio’s restoration team makes the same point more bluntly. In a Japanese-language article on Frogman restoration, the team says the situation that most accelerates hydrolysis is storing the watch for a long time with sweat soaked into it. Its translated text adds that normal wear is fine because the band dries once it is off the wrist, and that rinsing with water after sea use helps the band last longer. This is our translation of the Japanese original, not an English quotation from Casio.

In practice, that means taking the watch off, rinsing it if it has been in salt water or sweated heavily, drying it, and only then putting it in a drawer or case. Do not seal a damp watch in a box overnight.
Chemicals and stains
Resin reacts poorly to a range of common products. Casio’s Japanese care page lists the following as sources of discoloration or damage:

- Sunscreen and cosmetics.

Keep these off the band during application. If you use sunscreen, perfume, or hand cream, put them on before you dress and let them dry before you put the watch on. If a smudge-like mark appears on the surface, wipe it with a cloth. Do not treat it with a chemical spot remover.
Signs the band has deteriorated
Cleaning removes dirt. It does not reverse changes in the material itself. Casio’s care guidance identifies the following as signs of deterioration:

- Cracks, including fine lines near the holes or the buckle area.
- Breaks or chips.
- Hardening, where the band feels stiff or brittle compared with new.
- Stickiness on the surface, even after cleaning.
When any of these appear, Casio advises replacing the band promptly rather than trying to restore it with cleaning products or home treatments (CASIO, Resin Band Care). Continuing to wear a cracked band also risks losing the watch itself at the lugs or buckle.

- The exact model number printed on the caseback. Resin bands differ between G-SHOCK models even when they look similar.
- Material and colour. Confirm that the replacement is a resin band for your model rather than a generic strap with a similar profile.
- Seller or service provenance. Buy from a seller that identifies the model and return policy, or go through the official restoration channel for your region.
The official restoration pages are the most reliable place to confirm whether band replacement is offered for your watch and region.
