An Apple Watch can control a Windows PC through a compatible third-party app on the Watch or paired iPhone, plus a helper program running on Windows. For general mouse, keyboard, media, shortcut, and app controls, Remote, Mouse & Keyboard is the most practical starting point. Apple’s own Remote app is useful only for controlling an iTunes library, not the Windows desktop.
Choose the right kind of control
“Control a Windows PC” can mean several different things. An Apple Watch is useful as a quick-control surface, but its small screen makes it a poor replacement for a keyboard, mouse, or full remote-desktop client.

| What you want to do | Best option | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Mouse, keyboard, media, shortcuts and app controls | Remote, Mouse & Keyboard | Broad control through an Apple Watch companion and Windows helper |
| Custom buttons, macros and scripts | TouchControl | More flexible, but more configuration-heavy |
| Shutdown, restart, sleep, lock or Wake-on-LAN | Off | Power management rather than desktop control |
| Full remote desktop | iPhone or iPad | Use a larger-screen remote-desktop app such as Microsoft Windows App Mobile |
| iTunes playback | Apple Remote | Controls an iTunes library only |
The easiest general-purpose method: Remote, Mouse & Keyboard
The current App Store listing for Remote, Mouse & Keyboard identifies Apple Watch support, Windows PC control, mouse and keyboard input, media controls, screen viewing, screenshots, app launching, shortcuts and custom panels. Its Windows helper is available from the vendor’s official download page.

The connection normally works through this chain:
Apple Watch → paired iPhone/app → local network → Windows helper → Windows PC
That means the Watch is not simply acting as a universal Bluetooth mouse connected directly to Windows. The helper program receives the app’s commands and performs the requested actions on the PC. Some Watch functions may depend on the paired iPhone and the app’s communication model.

Before you start
- An Apple Watch compatible with the app’s current version.
- An iPhone paired with the Watch.
- The iPhone and Windows PC connected to the same local network for normal LAN use.
- Permission to install and run a helper program on Windows.
- A Windows PC that is awake and connected to the network.
- The Watch component installed or enabled in the iPhone’s Watch app.
- Permission for the helper through Windows Defender Firewall on private networks.
The vendor’s App Store listing states Windows 7 or later support with a helper app. Treat that as the vendor’s compatibility claim rather than a guarantee for every Windows configuration. For one 2026 release line, the listing also tells Windows users to update the helper to version 2026.8 or later.
Setup steps
- Install Remote, Mouse & Keyboard on the iPhone from the App Store.
- Download and install the Windows helper from rs.ltd/get.
- Start the helper on the Windows PC. It may run in the Windows notification area.
- Approve Windows Defender Firewall or another network-access prompt if it appears. Use private-network access when appropriate; avoid exposing the helper on public networks.
- Confirm that the iPhone and PC are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Open the iPhone app and select or pair the Windows computer.
- Test the connection from the iPhone first. Move the pointer, click, adjust volume, or launch an application.
- Open the companion app on the Apple Watch. If it is missing, check the iPhone’s Watch app and the available-apps section.
- Select the paired Windows PC or a configured control panel.
- Test a low-risk command such as play/pause or volume before adding shortcuts and custom actions.
Exact screen names and button locations can change between app versions. If the labels differ, follow the app’s in-app pairing prompts. The Watch will generally show a limited control panel—not a complete Windows desktop. Depending on the selected panel, it may provide media buttons, mouse controls, shortcuts, app controls or custom actions.

What the Watch is good—and bad—at
Good uses
- Pausing or skipping media on a PC connected to a television or speakers.
- Adjusting volume from the sofa.
- Moving or clicking the pointer for a presentation or home-theater PC.
- Launching a known application.
- Triggering predefined keyboard shortcuts.
- Running a small number of dedicated actions from a kiosk or presentation setup.
Poor uses
- Typing long text.
- Precision pointer work.
- Multi-window productivity.
- File management.
- Viewing and troubleshooting a full Windows desktop.
- Recovering a PC whose network connection or helper has stopped.
For those jobs, use an iPhone, iPad, keyboard, mouse or full remote-desktop client instead.

If the Watch cannot find the PC
Work through the connection in this order:
- Check that the Windows helper is running.
- Verify that the iPhone and PC are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Temporarily disable a VPN or cellular routing on the iPhone.
- Make sure neither device is on guest Wi-Fi. Guest networks commonly block device-to-device communication.
- Check Windows Defender Firewall and allow the helper on private networks.
- Restart the helper, then restart the iPhone app.
- Test the iPhone connection before restarting or troubleshooting the Watch.
- Update the helper if the app requests it; the vendor’s release notes specify version 2026.8 or later for a relevant 2026 release.
- Restart the Watch only after the iPhone connection works.
- If available, manually add the PC using the app’s connection option, or follow the vendor’s support instructions.
Network problems that are easy to miss
- Guest networks: They can isolate wireless clients even when the Wi-Fi name appears correct.
- Corporate and school networks: Peer-to-peer traffic may be blocked by policy.
- Mesh systems and multiple routers: Devices can share a Wi-Fi name while being separated by VLANs or client isolation.
- VPNs: The phone may send traffic through the VPN instead of the local network.
- Sleep mode: A sleeping PC may stop responding unless Wake-on-LAN is configured and supported.
Apple’s built-in-style option: iTunes Remote
Apple documents a narrower solution: pairing the Remote app with iTunes for Windows. Apple also says the Remote app is available on Apple Watch. This controls the iTunes media library; it does not control Explorer, the Windows shell, arbitrary applications, the pointer or the full desktop.

- Choose Connect Manually, or use Home Sharing if that is configured.
- Note the four-digit code shown by the app.
- In iTunes for Windows, click the Remote button near the upper-left area.
- Enter the four-digit code.
- Use the Remote app—and its Watch availability—to control the paired library.
See Apple’s iTunes instructions for pairing the Remote app. This is the right answer for iTunes playback, not for general Windows control.
For custom buttons and automation: TouchControl
TouchControl is a better fit for enthusiasts building a dedicated home-theater, presentation or automation controller. Its vendor documentation describes Apple Watch control of Windows processes and applications, including mouse and keyboard input. It can also be configured to trigger AutoHotKey, EventGhost, executables, scripts and macros.

Download the Windows server from the vendor’s download page and see the PC remote documentation for advanced configuration. This option offers more control than a ready-made remote, but it takes longer to design and test safely.
For power commands only: Off
Off is aimed at a much narrower job: shutting down, restarting, sleeping, locking or waking a Windows PC with Wake-on-LAN. It is a useful choice when you want a Watch button such as “lock my PC” or “wake my PC,” but it is not a mouse, keyboard or remote-desktop solution.

Wake-on-LAN from outside the home may require a VPN, router configuration or a trusted relay. Turning on a Watch setting alone does not make a sleeping PC reachable from the public internet.
What about Microsoft Windows App and Unified Remote?
Microsoft’s Windows App Mobile is designed for iPhone and iPad access to Windows PCs and hosted environments such as Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, Dev Box and Remote Desktop Services. The current listing identifies iPhone and iPad rather than Apple Watch as supported client platforms. Use it when you need full remote-desktop access from a larger screen, not as a direct Watch solution.
Unified Remote is another established iPhone/iPad option, with a Windows server and features including mouse, keyboard, screen mirroring, files, media and power controls. Its current official materials list Windows 10 or later, 64-bit for the server, but they do not clearly establish an Apple Watch companion. Do not assume that an iPhone app also has a watchOS app.

Security checklist
- Prefer local-network control.
- Keep the iPhone app and Windows helper updated.
- Allow the helper through Windows Firewall only on networks you trust.
- Do not forward the helper’s ports to the public internet unless the vendor documents a secure, authenticated method.
- Use a strong Windows account password.
- Treat buttons that launch executables, scripts or administrative commands as privileged actions.
- Test shutdown, deletion and administrative buttons safely before relying on them.
- For remote access outside your home, prefer a trusted VPN or another documented secure method.
Bottom line
For most people who specifically want to control Windows from an Apple Watch, start with Remote, Mouse & Keyboard: install its iPhone app, Windows helper and Watch companion, then keep both devices on the same trusted network. Choose TouchControl if custom panels and automation matter more than simplicity, or Off if you only need power commands. Use Apple’s Remote app only when your target is an iTunes library, and use an iPhone or iPad for genuine full-desktop remote access.
