How to Export Pixel Watch Sleep Data and Keep an Archive on a NAS

Google Takeout can provide a separate copy of health data that includes sleep records. Here’s how to export it and keep an archive on a NAS without mistaking it for live sync or a guaranteed year of history.

Google lets you download account data that includes health information such as sleep records, then store the archive somewhere you control. A NAS can be that destination, but it is your storage choice—not a Google-supported NAS integration. An export is a snapshot, not a live sync, and it does not delete the Google-hosted copy.

The title’s one-year archive and limited-history experience should be understood as account-specific: Google’s public guidance does not establish a universal sleep-history display limit or guarantee that every export will contain a year of Pixel Watch sleep data.

What a Pixel Watch sleep-data export can—and cannot—do

Google’s export guidance covers data associated with Google services, including health data related to sleep. Google also says that downloading data does not delete it from its servers. The export therefore gives you a separate copy; it does not move or remove the data from Google. Google’s download guidance describes the process and storage considerations.

The data visible in the Google Health or Fitbit app and the data included in a downloadable archive are not necessarily the same thing. Google’s Health API documentation recognizes Pixel Watch devices and sleep records, but that is not a guarantee that a particular consumer account’s export will include a specific date range or every record shown in the app. The API documentation is aimed at developers, not a promise of an unrestricted consumer export.

UGREEN NAS is a better way to free up storage across all your devices such as phones, computers, tablets and also does automatic backups across devices regardless of the operating system—Window, iOS, Android or macOS.
  • The Smarter Long-term Way to Store: Unlike cloud storage with recurring monthly fees, a UGREEN NAS enclosure requires only a one-time purchase for long-term use. For example, you only need to pay $459.98 for a NAS, while for cloud storage, you need to pay $719.88 per year, $2,159.64 for 3 years, $3,599.40 for 5 years. You will save $6,738.82 over 10 years with UGREEN NAS! *NAS cost based on DH2300 + 12TB HDD; cloud cost based on 12TB plan (e.g. $59.99/month).
  • Blazing Speed, Minimal Power: Equipped with a high-performance processor, 1GbE port, and 4GB RAM on Board, this NAS handles multiple tasks with ease. File transfers reach up to 125MB/s—a 1GB file takes only 8 seconds. Don't let slow clouds hold you back; they often need over 100 seconds for the same task. The difference is clear.
  • Let AI Better Organize Your Memories: UGREEN NAS uses AI to tag faces, locations, texts, and objects—so you can effortlessly find any photo by searching for who or what's in it in seconds. It also automatically finds and deletes similar or duplicate photo, backs up live photos and allows you to share them with your friends or family with just one tap. Everything stays effortlessly organized, powered by intelligent tagging and recognition.

Google’s public materials reviewed here do not establish a single retention limit for sleep history across all accounts, regions, app versions, or data types. Treat a shorter history visible in an app—and a year found in an archive—as observations to verify in your own account, rather than universal limits or guarantees.

How to export your Google Health or Fitbit data

Google’s help page is titled “How to download your Google data.” The product name may differ across instructions and interfaces: Google announced on May 7, 2026, that the Fitbit app was becoming the Google Health app. Older directions may still say Fitbit. Use the current export flow and select the health or Fitbit data associated with your account. Google’s announcement explains the naming change.

  3. Choose the export settings and request the archive. If you use a scheduled export, note that Google describes an option to create archives every two months for one year. That schedule is a Takeout feature; it does not mean the app displays one year of history or that each archive is a complete NAS backup.

  4. Download the completed archive and inspect it on your computer before moving it elsewhere. Google notes that changes made after the export request and before archive creation may not be included, so regard the result as a snapshot rather than a live, continuously updated copy.

Google’s general advice is to store the archive somewhere safe with enough space. Its help page says, “In most cases, it is easiest to download it directly to your computer.”

Copying the archive to a NAS

A NAS can serve as a convenient place to keep an exported archive, especially if you already use one for personal files. The supported part of the process is Google’s export and its destination-neutral storage advice; Google does not document a direct NAS connection or a NAS-specific setup procedure.

  1. Download the archive to a computer, following Google’s documented approach.

  5. Consider keeping another copy on an external drive or other separate destination. A single NAS copy is still one copy; its availability and protection depend on your device, configuration, and backup routine.

A computer or external drive may be simpler if you only want an occasional offline archive. A NAS may be more convenient for access across devices or away from home, depending on how it is configured. Google does not compare these destinations; choose based on capacity, retrieval needs, and whether you will maintain a second copy.

How to tell whether the archive solves your history problem

After exporting, check the records and dates actually present rather than assuming the archive covers the period you expected. Record when you requested the export, when it was created, and the earliest and latest sleep dates you find. If you are documenting a personal workflow, those details make clear what the archive demonstrated for that account at that time.

An export will not automatically keep the NAS current. A scheduled Takeout archive is a recurring export option, not proof of continuous synchronization or a substitute for checking each archive. If you want future records preserved, plan to repeat the export and verify each resulting snapshot.

Sleep records are personal health-related data. Store the archive with access controls appropriate to your household and consider whether other people who can access the NAS should be able to view it. These records are not, by themselves, a diagnosis or a substitute for medical advice.
