Start with the exact watch, not the strap. A replacement fits a Seiko when the lug width matches that model’s specified distance between lugs and the strap uses the same attachment system the watch was built for. Seiko organizes its instructions by caliber code, so the caliber printed on the case back is the first thing to read.
Identify the watch first
Turn the watch over and read the caliber code on the case back. Seiko’s online instruction lookup is organized by caliber, so this code leads you to the correct instructions for band removal and attachment. Also note the full model or reference number. Lug measurements and attachment details are published per reference, and two watches that look alike can use different caliber codes or lug sizes.
Seiko has said it is gradually discontinuing paper instruction manuals, starting in February 2024, and directs owners to its online instructions. If you do not have a manual, the online lookup is the current route.
Check the lug width against the model
The number you need is the distance between the lugs, measured where the strap ends sit against the case. It is set by the model, not by the brand, so a width that suits one Seiko can be wrong for another.

- SKX007 SKX009 etc.
- Lug width (the width of the watch body) --- 22mm
- Until 6:00 side longest hole ----- about 110mm
- Buckle width --- 20mm 12:00 side buckle tip to ---- about 98mm
Use the official specification when it exists
Seiko’s product page for the SRPD95 lists a 22 mm distance between lugs. That figure belongs to that reference only. It is an example of where to look, not a Seiko-wide standard. For your own watch, find the product page for the exact reference and read the lug measurement there.
Measure when the specification is not available
If you cannot find a published figure, measure with a caliper across the inside of the lugs at the point where the strap’s ends sit. Take the reading at the spring-bar position, and measure twice. Treat your reading as a measurement you made yourself, and compare it against the width stated on the replacement listing.
Confirm the attachment system
A strap can have the right width and still not fit the watch’s mechanism. Seiko’s instruction catalog documents several band systems, and the one your watch uses determines which instructions apply.
| Attachment system | Where Seiko documents it | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| Pull-through band with spring bars | Seiko Watch Corporation’s “How to use the pull-through type band” instructions | Follow the removal, spring-bar check, and routing steps in the section below |
| Easy-removal band | Seiko’s instruction lookup, by caliber | Find the instruction for your caliber and follow its release steps |
| Button-type quick-change band | Seiko’s instruction lookup, by caliber | Find the instruction for your caliber and follow its release steps |
The sources reviewed describe the existence of these systems but do not explain their mechanics in detail, so read the caliber-specific instruction before you attempt a release.

Fit a pull-through band
Seiko’s pull-through instructions describe the sequence below. Read the full instructions for your caliber before you start.
- Confirm from the caliber lookup that the watch uses a pull-through band with spring bars.
- Remove the old band using the removal steps in Seiko’s pull-through instructions.
- Check that the spring bars are securely attached to the lugs before you fit anything new.
- Route the replacement band around the case as the instructions describe, and attach it to the spring bars.
- Confirm the band is secure and seated before wearing the watch.
A spring-bar tool can help when a conventional spring bar needs replacing. The official sources do not say that every Seiko band requires one, so do not assume you need it.
When to stop and seek service
If you cannot identify the caliber or attachment system, or if the release mechanism is unclear or resists you, stop. Forcing a band can damage the spring bars, lugs, or the band’s attachment points. Seiko’s regional customer service can confirm the system for your specific watch, and an authorized service center can perform the change if you prefer.

- Lug width is stated and matches the model’s specification, not a width from a different reference.
- The listing names the attachment system (pull-through, easy-removal, or button-type) and matches the one your caliber uses.
- Material and intended use are described. The sources reviewed do not establish a universal material recommendation, so judge this from the listing and your own wear conditions.
- The listing says whether the original buckle or clasp can be reused, or whether a compatible one is included. The sources do not set a general buckle-fit rule.
Once the width, the attachment system, and the buckle arrangement are confirmed against your watch, the replacement is ready to fit.
