1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIf you want the classic 42 mm manually wound chronograph with NASA lunar history, the Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional is the model to shortlist. “Speedmaster” is the name of OMEGA’s wider watch family, so the real decision is between a specific Moonwatch Professional reference and another Speedmaster branch, most often the 38 mm line if you want a smaller case and automatic winding. Before you compare listings, confirm the exact reference, crystal, strap or bracelet, material, price, and regional availability.
Speedmaster and Moonwatch are not interchangeable terms
Speedmaster is the collection. Moonwatch, in everyday use, usually means the Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional, a specific line inside that collection. OMEGA also sells other Speedmaster branches, including the Speedmaster 38 and First OMEGA in Space, so a search for “Moonwatch” describes one model within a family rather than the whole range.
How the main options compare
The table below uses only what OMEGA’s own announcements and manuals state. Where the cited material is silent on a point, the cell says so rather than filling the gap.
| Option | What OMEGA documents | Shortlist it if you want |
|---|---|---|
| Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional | 42 mm case and manually wound Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861 in OMEGA’s January 13, 2026 announcement. The 2026 black-and-white models have a sapphire front crystal. The manual for reference 310.32.42.50.04.001 lists 5 bar water resistance and a 50-hour power reserve. | The Moonwatch Professional identity, a manually wound chronograph, and the spaceflight heritage the name carries. |
| Speedmaster 38 | Seven new 38 mm references announced August 25, 2026. Six date versions use self-winding Calibre 3330; the black-dial no-date reference uses self-winding Calibre 3332. | A smaller case and automatic winding, with the Moonwatch design cues kept in a more compact form. |
| First OMEGA in Space | A 2024 model with a 39.70 mm symmetrical stainless-steel case, a CK 2998-inspired design, manual Calibre 3861, and heritage styling. | A smaller manually wound option with an early-Speedmaster design rather than the 42 mm Moonwatch Professional look. |
This table compares documented facts, not overall value. Movement function, crystal, caseback, and fit should be checked against the exact reference you are considering.

Moonwatch Professional: current references and what the manual adds
Black-and-white references announced in January 2026
OMEGA’s January 13, 2026 release introduced black-and-white dial Moonwatch Professional watches in stainless steel and in 18K Moonshine Gold. Both use a 42 mm case and Calibre 3861. The announcement describes a black ceramic bezel ring with a white enamel tachymeter scale, a sapphire front crystal, Master Chronometer certification, and a five-year warranty. The stainless-steel version has rhodium-plated hands and markers; the gold version carries Moonshine Gold dial details.
What the reference 310.32.42.50.04.001 manual documents
OMEGA’s manual for reference 310.32.42.50.04.001 describes a stainless-steel case on a rubber strap, a 42 mm diameter, 5 bar water resistance, manual Calibre 3861, a 50-hour power reserve, and hour, minute, small seconds, chronograph, and tachymeter functions. These details belong to that one reference. OMEGA’s cited material does not give a complete side-by-side of standard black-dial Hesalite and sapphire Moonwatch references, so do not assume that the crystal, caseback, or water resistance of one reference applies to another.

Speedmaster 38: the automatic, smaller-case alternative
The Speedmaster 38 is a distinct line, not simply a shrunken Moonwatch. OMEGA’s August 25, 2026 announcement describes updated 38 mm models with rounded subdials, less dial text, and thicker bezels. Six date versions run on self-winding Calibre 3330, and the black-dial no-date reference runs on self-winding Calibre 3332.
OMEGA President and CEO Raynald Aeschlimann framed the collection this way: “The Speedmaster 38 mm has always taken its cues from the Moonwatch, while keeping size, colour, and simplicity in mind.” (OMEGA collection announcement, August 25, 2026.)

OMEGA states that NASA declared the Speedmaster “Flight Qualified for all Manned Space Missions” on March 1, 1965. That is a dated, documented milestone. It does not mean every current Speedmaster variant shares the same mission history.
OMEGA’s account of the CK 2998 says the watch was first released in 1959 as the second Speedmaster generation. Astronaut Walter “Wally” Schirra bought his own and wore it on the Sigma 7 Mercury mission, launched October 3, 1962. First OMEGA in Space draws on that design, but its look differs from the Moonwatch Professional, which is why it sits in a separate row above.

Matching the model to your habits
- Wrist fit. Diameter alone does not tell you how a watch will sit. Lug-to-lug length, case thickness, and the bracelet or strap all matter, so try the watch on where you can.
- Winding. The Moonwatch Professional’s Calibre 3861 is wound by hand. Speedmaster 38 models wind automatically. If you want a watch you wear every day without winding, the 38 mm line fits that habit better; if you enjoy winding and the chronograph ritual, the Moonwatch Professional suits it.
- Heritage versus size. The 42 mm Moonwatch Professional carries the NASA story most directly. First OMEGA in Space offers the same manual-wind movement in a smaller case with an earlier design.
- Price and availability. The cited OMEGA material does not establish current regional pricing or authorized-dealer stock, so compare those locally rather than relying on any figure from this article.
Verify the exact reference before you buy
- Record the full reference number from the seller’s listing or the original OMEGA papers, and match it to OMEGA’s official product page or manual.
- Confirm the case diameter (42 mm for the Moonwatch Professional, 38 mm for the Speedmaster 38, 39.70 mm for First OMEGA in Space) and the movement calibre named for that reference.
- Check the front crystal and caseback configuration for that specific reference, because the cited material does not provide a universal comparison.
- Confirm which strap or bracelet is included, and whether it is rubber, metal, or another material.
- Compare local prices and authorized stock for that reference only.
- Try the watch on before committing, and judge the fit on your own wrist.
Reference numbers, crystal types, and included straps can vary between announcements and variants, so treat the manual and the official product page for the exact reference as the final authority.
