Choose the Omega Speedmaster if a manually wound chronograph, the Moonwatch identity and a tachymeter scale matter most to you. Choose the TAG Heuer Carrera reference CBS2115.BA0053 if you want an automatic movement, a longer stated power reserve, higher stated water resistance and the green Glassbox design. That is a recommendation based on published specifications, not on tested accuracy, comfort or service experience.
Both watches are 41 to 42 mm steel chronographs with two-counter layouts, but they are not interchangeable. The answer depends on the exact reference you are considering, so this comparison names the specific models each brand’s published documents describe.
Which models are being compared
Omega and TAG Heuer each sell several chronograph configurations, so a comparison has to start with exact references.
Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional
Omega’s 2026 press announcement introduces two new 42 mm Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional versions, both powered by the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861. One is stainless steel and the other is 18K Moonshine Gold. Omega describes the movement as an evolution of Calibre 321, the manual-wind chronograph movement associated with the Moon missions. That lineage is Omega’s own description.

The specifications below come from Omega’s user manual for reference 310.32.42.50.04.001. That manual is a separate steel-case reference with a rubber bracelet. It is the model these figures describe, and it should not be read as a description of the gold version announced in 2026.
TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph CBS2115.BA0053
The Carrera reference is the 41 mm steel automatic model described on TAG Heuer’s official US product page. It has a green circular-brushed dial, a domed Glassbox sapphire crystal, a TH20-01 automatic movement and a steel seven-row beads-of-rice bracelet. The page gives a 1/4-second chronograph with 30-minute and 12-hour counters.

What the specifications mean in practice
Winding
The Speedmaster is manually wound, so you wind the crown to power the watch. The Carrera is automatic, so the rotor keeps it wound while you wear it. Manual winding is a deliberate choice for many chronograph buyers. Automatic winding is the simpler option if you want the watch to run without daily winding, although that depends on wearing it regularly.

Power reserve
Omega’s manual gives 50 hours for the cited reference. TAG Heuer’s page gives 80 hours for the CBS2115.BA0053. Both are manufacturer figures measured under each company’s own conditions, and neither has been independently verified here. The difference matters most if you take the watch off for long periods, since a longer reserve gives more margin before the watch stops.
Water resistance
The Omega manual rates the reference at 5 bar (50 m). The Carrera page lists 100 m. These are static pressure ratings. They are not guidance for swimming, diving or any specific activity. Check each manufacturer’s manual before using either watch in water, and do not treat the higher number as a guarantee for any activity.

Size and fit
The Speedmaster is 42 mm and the Carrera is 41 mm. A 1 mm difference in diameter says little about how a watch sits on the wrist. Lug-to-lug length, thickness and bracelet shape affect fit more, and the sources here do not give those figures for either reference, so try the watch on before deciding.

The Carrera’s US page displayed $7,950 when accessed on 2026-10-09. Prices and availability change, so check the current figure before buying. The sources reviewed do not establish a comparable current official US price for the Speedmaster reference, a street discount for either watch, resale value or service costs. Without those figures, neither watch can be named the value winner.

Both brands state a five-year warranty in the sources reviewed. Omega’s statement is in its 2026 announcement and covers the announced timepieces. TAG Heuer’s statement is on the Carrera product page. Read each warranty’s terms before purchase.
Check the exact Carrera reference
Carrera specifications do not carry across the whole collection. TAG Heuer’s 2025 Carrera Chronograph brochure includes a 39 mm variant with an 80-hour power reserve and a leather strap. The brochure summary used here does not state that variant’s movement or water resistance, so those cells are marked “not stated.”
| Carrera configuration | Case size | Power reserve | Water resistance | Strap or bracelet |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CBS2115.BA0053 (official US page) | 41 mm | 80 hours | 100 m | Steel seven-row beads-of-rice bracelet |
| 39 mm Carrera Chronograph variant (2025 brochure) | 39 mm | 80 hours | Not stated in the brochure summary | Leather strap |
Other Carrera chronograph listings from older generations, including discontinued 41 mm Calibre 16 models, may appear in search results. Do not apply the CBS2115.BA0053 figures to them.
Quick Recap
How to choose
- Choose the Speedmaster if you want a manually wound chronograph, a tachymeter scale and the Moonwatch line’s history. Confirm the exact reference, because the 2026 gold and steel versions and the cited steel manual reference are different products.
- Choose the Carrera CBS2115.BA0053 if you want automatic winding, an 80-hour stated reserve, a 100 m stated rating and the green dial. Confirm the case size and bracelet on your wrist, and check the current US price.
- Test fit before deciding. A 1 mm case difference is smaller than the effect of lug shape and bracelet length. Compare both watches in person if you can.
- Check current terms. Prices, stock and warranty terms can change after this article’s sources were accessed on 2026-10-09.
