If your Apple Watch keeps showing the Apple logo, first force-restart it by holding the side button and Digital Crown until the screen turns black and the logo reappears. If it remains stuck, unpair and pair it again, then check for an available watchOS update; contact Apple for service if the problem continues.
The logo alone does not identify the cause. Follow these steps in order, and use charging checks only if the watch also will not charge or turn on.
Key takeaways
- Apple’s first listed step for a watch stuck on the Apple logo is a force restart.
- If the logo persists, unpair and pair the watch again, then check for a software update.
- Unpairing through the iPhone creates a backup; you can choose to restore from it when pairing again.
- Charging checks are relevant if the watch also has a power or charging problem.
- Apple recommends service if the watch remains stuck after its troubleshooting steps.
What does a flashing Apple logo on an Apple Watch mean?
A flashing or repeatedly reappearing Apple logo means the watch is not completing startup. The symptom alone does not establish whether the cause is software, power, or hardware, so it is not possible to diagnose the fault from the screen alone.
How do you fix a flashing Apple logo on an Apple Watch?
Start with a force restart. If the logo persists, unpair and pair the watch again using the paired iPhone, and check for an available watchOS update in the Apple Watch app. If those steps do not resolve the problem, seek Apple service.

Press and hold the side button and Digital Crown together until the screen turns black and the Apple logo reappears, then release both buttons. Apple says the watch may take a few moments to restart. See Apple’s instructions for an Apple Watch stuck on the Apple logo.
Allow the watch time to restart before trying another step. If it remains stuck, continue to unpairing and pairing again.

After the force restart and unpairing steps, check whether an update is available in the Apple Watch app. An update is a troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed repair.
- Open the Apple Watch app on the iPhone.
- Tap My Watch > General > Software Update.
- Install an available update by following the on-screen instructions.
Apple’s stuck-logo guidance includes checking for an update. See Apple Support.

If the watch has a charging or power symptom as well as the logo, check the charging setup. Make sure the magnetic cable is connected to its USB power adapter and outlet, reposition the watch so the magnets align, and check that the watch back and charger are clean. Apple suggests trying another Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Cable and USB Power Adapter if available.
A fully depleted watch may need up to 30 minutes before a charging indicator appears. A cable or adapter may help address a charging problem, but it is not a universal fix for a software or hardware fault. See Apple’s guidance for an Apple Watch that will not turn on or charge.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I try first if my Apple Watch is stuck on the Apple logo?
Force-restart it by holding the side button and Digital Crown until the screen turns black and the Apple logo reappears. Release both buttons and allow the watch a few moments to restart.
Will unpairing my Apple Watch create a backup?
Apple says the paired iPhone creates a backup when you unpair the watch. When pairing again, you can choose to restore from that backup.
Should I buy a new charger to fix a flashing Apple logo?
Only consider charging accessories if the watch also has a charging or power problem. Apple recommends checking the cable connection, magnetic alignment, and cleanliness, and suggests trying another cable and USB power adapter if available. A new charger is not a universal fix for a startup loop.
When should I contact Apple about a stuck Apple Watch?
Contact Apple for service if the watch remains stuck after following Apple’s force-restart, unpair-and-pair, and update guidance.
