Check that your exact model has smartphone Bluetooth, confirm which Casio app that model uses, and then pair from that app’s setup flow. Only if all three line up does it make sense to look for a device-side cause.
Start by confirming your watch has smartphone connection
Casio does not give smartphone Bluetooth to every G-SHOCK. Its UK guide, “How to connect G-SHOCK Watches with Bluetooth (2024 Guide),” describes Bluetooth on a large range of models, not all of them. If your watch is not one of them, no app setting or phone reset will create a link.
To check, find the module number printed on the caseback. Casio uses that number to identify the timepiece in its app, so it is the most reliable way to confirm both compatibility and the correct registration path. Then look up that exact module in Casio’s manuals and support materials. The Casio America Quick Guide page lists current and older app/model guides, so you can confirm your watch’s family there as well.
If your exact model does not list Bluetooth or a mobile link, pairing is not a repair route for that watch.

Use the app that matches your watch
The app is the second common cause of failure. Casio’s 2024 UK guide states that Bluetooth G-SHOCK models released from May 2022 use CASIO WATCHES. Earlier Bluetooth models may instead use G-SHOCK CONNECTED or G-SHOCK MOVE, and Casio directs owners of those watches to their instruction manuals for the correct app.
Treat the May 2022 date as a rule of thumb rather than a compatibility test. Two watches with similar release dates can differ, so match the app to the exact module number. If you installed the wrong app, remove it and install the one named for your model before trying again.

Pair the watch from the app’s setup flow
Once you know the model and app, follow Casio’s general sequence for CASIO WATCHES:
- On the phone, open Settings and turn on Bluetooth.
- Open CASIO WATCHES and choose the option to add a watch.
- Enter the module number from the caseback.
- Select the matching timepiece from the list the app shows.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to finish registration.
In the example Casio gives for its UK guide, the watch is put into pairing mode by holding the C button for at least three seconds, until a beep sounds and the mode hand points to the Bluetooth mark. That button step belongs to the example procedure only. Many G-SHOCK models use different controls, so if your watch’s button layout does not match, use the pairing instructions in that model’s manual instead.

If pairing still fails, gather the details before changing settings
Casio’s published guidance does not include a universal reset sequence or a single cause for failed pairing. Because the correct steps depend on the model, the most useful next move is to write down the following before you try anything else:
- The full watch model and the module number from the caseback
- The phone’s make and operating-system version
- The name and version of the app you are using
- Whether the watch appears in the app’s device list, your phone’s Bluetooth settings, or neither
- The exact message, or the step at which the process stops
With those details, check the matching model’s manual and Casio’s quick-guide listing. If the watch does not appear anywhere, the problem is likely at the pairing step itself. If it appears in one place but not the other, the mismatch is more likely between the app and the model.

Pairing and Phone Finder are different things
Phone Finder is a feature you use after a watch and phone are already linked. It is not a requirement for initial pairing. Casio’s UK guide says Phone Finder needs Bluetooth and Location turned on, and it describes a range of approximately 30 feet. The button used to start Phone Finder varies by model.
So if you are trying to pair for the first time, do not switch on Location as a fix on the assumption that it is required. Turn it on only when you are setting up or using Phone Finder.

What the official sources do not establish
Casio’s pages explain how the app is supposed to work, but they do not publish failure rates, repair success figures, or a list of common error messages. They also do not say that a particular accessory, adapter, or battery change fixes a pairing problem. Avoid any product recommendation for this symptom unless the model’s own Casio documentation supports it.
Casio’s Europe technology page for Bluetooth Link, at gshock.casio.com/europe/technology/mobilelink, notes that automatic time correction and related functions vary by model. Use it to understand what your watch should do once connected, not to assume that every G-SHOCK offers every feature.
