A blank or frozen display is a separate problem: restart the watch before trying to change a face.
When the watch works: select the face again
On the watch, touch and hold the current face, swipe left or right through the available faces, then tap the one you want to use. For supported faces, select the face and tap Edit if you want to adjust it before applying it. Google’s Pixel Watch face instructions cover these controls.

You can also use the phone: open the Google Pixel Watch app, tap Watch faces, browse the options, then tap Use on watch. The app also offers an edit option for supported faces.

A face hidden from the on-watch carousel may still appear in the companion app. Wear OS says hidden faces can be added back from that app. If the labels or behavior differ on your Pixel Watch, use the Pixel Watch app’s Watch faces controls first; the Wear OS instructions describe more general behavior that may vary by device generation or software version. If the face came from a downloaded app
A downloaded face that is no longer available may depend on an app that has been removed. In that case, restore or manage the app itself rather than treating the face as a built-in option. Once the app is available again, check the face gallery or companion app.
Restore a face that uses personal photos
For a Photos face, make sure the Pixel Watch app on your phone and Google Photos on both your phone and watch are up to date. Google says a Photos face can use up to 30 selected photos. Google’s Pixel Watch face instructions describe two ways to add one.

From the phone
- Open the Google Pixel Watch app and tap Watch faces.
- Tap Add new, then choose Photos.
- Choose the watch face in Photos, select the photos you want, tap Add, then tap Save.
From the watch
Touch and hold the current face, add Photos from the face gallery, then follow the prompt to select photos on your phone.
Restore the face when setting up a replacement watch
If you are replacing the whole watch, select the old watch’s backup during setup. Google says a restore can include the old watch’s apps, data, settings, watch face, and tiles. You can also choose Don’t restore to start fresh. Follow Google’s Pixel Watch backup and replacement instructions and Pixel Watch setup guidance.
Prepare and restore a backup
- On the old watch, connect to Wi-Fi and place it on its charger.
- In the Google Pixel Watch app, go to Google → Backup and enable backup. Google cautions that backup may take up to a few days; it is not necessarily immediate.
- During setup of the replacement watch, select the available backup to restore it.
If the display is blank, frozen, or unresponsive
A blank or frozen display is not the same as a missing face. Restart the watch before attempting a reset. Google’s blank- and frozen-screen troubleshooting steps recommend holding the crown for three seconds, then choosing Restart.
If a normal restart does not work
For an unresponsive watch, hold the crown and side button together for about 35 seconds or longer, until the G logo appears. If the issue involves pairing or startup more broadly, follow Google’s troubleshooting flow rather than changing face settings.
Why a factory reset is not the first step
A factory reset erases apps, settings, and data. It is unnecessary for a simple face-selection issue and may remove data you have not backed up. Consider it only after less destructive troubleshooting, and check that a usable backup exists when possible. Google explains the effects of a Wear OS factory reset.
