You can keep your favorite watch face installed and improve Pixel Watch 4 battery life by changing when the display lights up. Start with a shorter screen timeout, then decide whether you can live without Always-on Display or Tilt-to-wake. Use Bedtime mode overnight and Battery Saver when you need more time between charges.
Start with the display settings
These adjustments leave your chosen face in place. They change how long the screen stays on and what wakes it, rather than requiring you to switch faces.

Set a shorter screen timeout
On the watch, open Settings → Display → Screen timeout and choose a faster timeout. The screen will go dark sooner when you are not using the watch, while your selected face remains installed.
Turn off Always-on Display if you do not need a continuously visible screen
Always-on Display keeps the screen from going dark when you are not actively using the watch. Turning it off is one of Google’s recommended ways to reduce battery use; you can still use the same face when you wake the display.

To turn it off, swipe down, open Settings → Display, and switch off Always-on Display. The tradeoff is that the face will no longer remain continuously visible.
Disable Tilt-to-wake to reduce automatic wake-ups
Tilt-to-wake lights the display when you raise or tilt your wrist. If the screen wakes more often than you need, swipe down and open Settings → Gestures → Tilt-to-wake, then switch it off. You will need to wake the display another way.
Reduce screen activity while you sleep
Bedtime mode reduces overnight battery drain and interruptions during sleep tracking. When it is active, the screen, Tilt-to-wake, and Touch-to-wake are off. Alarms, priority notifications, and repeat callers can still notify you.

Use Battery Saver when longer runtime matters more than immediate background activity
Battery Saver is the stronger option for a stretch away from a charger. Google says it turns on automatically at 15% battery. To enable it manually, swipe down and open Settings → Battery → Battery Saver, then tap OK.
Battery Saver disables Always-on Display, keeps Tilt-to-wake enabled, and limits background activity. Notifications may be delayed, so weigh the extra runtime against how quickly you need alerts to arrive.
Check whether music or connectivity is adding to battery use
Google notes that streaming music can drain the battery faster. If you listen while exercising, downloaded music for offline playback is worth considering, but Google does not quantify how much battery that change saves.
Mobile network use and signal strength also affect runtime. Turning mobile off when your phone is offline has a functional cost: some features, including calling, will be unavailable.

Google lists maximum battery-life estimates for both Pixel Watch 4 sizes. They are estimates, not guaranteed results for an individual watch. Google says battery life may differ based on watch series, usage, mobile network, signal strength, and other factors.

Google describes these as approximate maximum-life estimates based on California testing in 2026 on pre-production hardware and software, using default settings and a median Pixel user battery-usage profile. Its Battery Saver estimate starts from a 100% charge and includes activities such as notifications, checking the time, calls, and GPS workouts without music.
Does your watch face cause fast battery drain?
Google’s cited battery guidance does not publish comparative results for individual watch faces. There is no evidence here to rank faces or say that your preferred face is the cause of short runtime. Keep the face you like and first adjust screen timeout, display wake behavior, and overnight settings.
