To wind a Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical with the H-50 movement, turn its crown clockwise while it is pushed in. To set the time, pull the crown all the way out, turn it to the desired time, then push it back in. Hamilton’s general manual says about 50–60 full crown rotations provide a full wind; stop if the crown stops naturally and never force it.
How to wind the watch
- Check the crown. If your reference has a screw-down crown, unscrew it before adjusting. Hamilton says crown construction varies by model; consult the manual for your exact reference if you are unsure. Hamilton’s manual directory lists instructions by watch category.
- Keep the crown pushed in. Hamilton labels this manual-winding position p1. Turn the crown clockwise to wind the watch. Hamilton’s Khaki Field Mechanical product information specifies clockwise winding.
- Wind without forcing it. Hamilton’s Automatic or Manual Winding Watches manual, labeled 10.2025, describes approximately 50–60 full crown rotations for a full charge. Stop when the crown stops naturally; do not try to turn it farther. This is Hamilton’s general instruction, not a turn-count test of every individual watch.
How to set the time
- Pull the crown completely out to position p3. The seconds hand stops while the crown is in this position.
- Turn the crown in the desired direction until the hands show the correct time.
- Push the crown back in when you are finished. If your model has a screw-down crown, secure it according to the instructions for that reference. Hamilton says the crown should be pushed in to maintain water resistance.
What the H-50 power reserve means
Hamilton lists up to 80 hours of power reserve for Khaki Field Mechanical models with the H-50 movement. “Up to” is the manufacturer’s stated maximum, not a guaranteed run time for every watch. The watch’s actual reserve depends on its state of wind and use.

Why your exact reference matters
Khaki Field Mechanical models do not all share the same case or water-resistance rating. For example, Hamilton lists reference H69439111 as a 38 mm model with 5 bar (50 m) water resistance, and reference H69809730 as a 50 mm model with 10 bar (100 m) water resistance. Both use the H-50 and have a stated reserve of up to 80 hours. These specifications are reference-specific, so check the model number and its manual rather than assuming crown construction or water resistance is identical across the collection. Hamilton’s product information provides details for its listed references.
