To set the time on a G-Shock GM-5600, make sure the watch is in Timekeeping Mode, press A to start setting, move between fields with C, change values with B, and press A again to finish. The alarm and stopwatch use the same four buttons in different modes. The steps below follow Casio’s Operation Guide 3229/3421/3489 (2020) and Casio’s module 3229 time-adjustment guidance, so first confirm that your watch uses that module.
Confirm your module and button labels
Casio’s official support page for the GM-5600-1 points to the module 3229 time-adjustment guide and to Operation Guide 3229/3421/3489. Find the module number on the case back, the paperwork, or the manual before you start. Other GM-5600 variants can use a different module, and their button behavior may differ.
The module 3229 manual labels the buttons A, B, C, and D. Casio’s online time-adjustment page describes them by position, which is the easiest way to match the labels to the case:
| Button | Position described by Casio | Role in these procedures |
|---|---|---|
| A | Upper-left | Starts time or alarm setting; finishes setting; clears or shows splits on the stopwatch |
| B | Upper-right | Increases the selected value; starts, stops, and resumes the stopwatch |
| C | Lower-left | Cycles between modes; moves between fields while setting |
| D | Not stated in the cited position description | Switches 12-hour and 24-hour time while a field is flashing |
Set the time and date
Casio recommends setting the seconds against a time signal. The year can be set from 2000 through 2099, and the weekday is calculated automatically from the date.

- Press C until the watch is in Timekeeping Mode. Casio’s time-adjustment page says the watch should be in this mode before adjustment.
- Press A. The seconds digits begin to flash.
- Press C to move through the fields in this order: seconds, hour, minutes, year, month, day.
- With a field flashing, press B to raise its value. Hold B to advance quickly.
- With the seconds selected, press B to reset them to 00. If the seconds were between 30 and 59, one minute is added to the minutes. If they were between 00 and 29, the minutes stay the same.
- While a field is flashing, press D to switch between 12-hour and 24-hour time.
- Press A to finish and return to Timekeeping Mode.
Set an alarm
Alarm setting uses the same 12-hour or 24-hour format as regular timekeeping. If you use 12-hour format, check that the alarm is set for the intended AM or PM time.
- Press C until Alarm Mode appears.
- Hold A until the hour digits flash. Starting alarm setting switches the alarm on automatically.
- Press C to select the hour, minutes, month, or day. Press B to increase the selected value, or hold B to change it quickly.
- Press A to finish and return to Alarm Mode.
Choose the repeat pattern by leaving fields unset
The fields you leave unset decide how often the alarm sounds. Casio’s manual describes four patterns:
Rank #2
- Streamlined design, striking functional beauty, shock-resistant construction - a toughness-driven G-SHOCK with a monochromatic modern industrial look
- The digital GM-5600, with iconic shape and metal bezel, and the analog-digital combination GM-2100 take on an achromatic color scheme that highlights the chic beauty of simplicity and functionality
- For the GM-5600BM and GM-2100BM, black ion-plating is applied to all bezel components other than the top surface, adding depth and solidity to the bezel and amplifying the chic, unified look
| Alarm type | Fields to set | Fields to leave unset | When it sounds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Daily alarm | Hour and minutes | Month and day | Every day at the set time |
| Date alarm | Month, day, hour, and minutes | None | Once, on that date |
| One-month alarm | Month, hour, and minutes | Day | Daily during that month |
| Monthly alarm | Day, hour, and minutes | Month | Monthly, on that day |
Turn the alarm and hourly signal on or off
In Alarm Mode, press B to cycle through four states in this order: both off, alarm only, hourly signal only, and both on. The alarm sounds for 20 seconds. The hourly signal beeps on each hour. Press any button to stop a sounding alarm.
Use the stopwatch
- Press C until Stopwatch Mode appears.
- Press B to start timing. Press B again to stop, and press B once more to resume.
- Press A to clear the stopped measurement to zero.
To record a split, press A while timing is running. The display holds the split while timing continues internally. Press A again to return to showing the running time, then press B to stop and A to clear. The manual also covers first- and second-place timing, which the steps above do not describe.

Figures to know
- Accuracy: Casio’s Operation Guide 3229/3421/3489 (2020) gives a rate of ±15 seconds per month at normal temperature. This is the manual’s figure for this module, not a guarantee under all conditions.
- Alarm duration: 20 seconds, per the same manual.
- Stopwatch range: 23 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds, per the same manual.
- Water resistance: 200 meters, according to Casio Middle East & Africa’s GM-5600-1 product page. That page did not show a publication date when checked, and the rating applies to that listing. Check the exact model listing for other variants.
Because the accuracy figure is stated for normal temperature, expect more drift at extreme temperatures. Resetting the seconds against a time signal, as Casio recommends, is the simplest way to correct the time after a drift.
Rank #4
Some features may differ on other GM-5600 variants, so confirm the module number before following these steps.
