The correct crown-setting steps depend on your Black Bay’s reference: some models have no date, and the Black Bay GMT uses a different sequence from a standard date-equipped model. If you are unsure which instructions apply, check the reference number and its matching TUDOR manual before setting it.
Set the date and time on a standard Black Bay
For a date-equipped Black Bay that is not a GMT, use the crown’s first notch for the date and its last notch for the time. TUDOR’s English user manual labels the screwed-down position A, manual-winding position B, date-setting position C and time-setting position D.

Unscrew the crown from the case.

Pull the crown to the first notch, position C. Turn it until the desired date appears. The watch continues running while you adjust the date. Some TUDOR calibres do not have a date function, so this step will not apply to every Black Bay.

Pull the crown to the last notch, position D, and turn it in either direction to set the hands. The small seconds hand stops while the crown is in this position, which allows precise setting.

Set a Black Bay GMT
Follow the GMT sequence rather than treating the watch like a standard date model: set reference time first at the second notch, then set local time and date at the first notch. TUDOR describes the GMT’s 24-hour hand as reference time and its conventional hour hand as local time. The model page also identifies the winding crown as the control for setting the time and date and says to tighten it fully after each manipulation.

Move the bezel to its neutral position, with the triangle aligned at 12 o’clock.

Unscrew the crown and pull it to the second notch, position D. Turn the crown to set reference time using the 24-hour hand and minute hand. The seconds hand stops. Because this setting also moves the conventional hour hand, establish reference time before adjusting local time.

Pull the crown to the first notch, position C. Turn it to move the local hour hand in one-hour increments. As that hand passes midnight, the date changes in either direction. This position also lets you adjust local time while travelling without changing the 24-hour reference-time display.

Push the crown back in and screw it fully down when finished.
Tell noon from midnight on a stopped watch
If a date-equipped watch has stopped and you are unsure whether the displayed 12 o’clock is noon or midnight, advance the hands to 12 and watch the date. If it changes, the hands have reached midnight; if it does not, they have reached noon.

TUDOR’s user manual instructs owners to push the crown back in and screw it down carefully against the case after each operation to preserve the watch’s water resistance. Do not open the case or use tools for routine setting. If the crown is damaged, will not engage, or the setting mechanism does not work normally, contact an official TUDOR retailer or service centre rather than forcing it.
