First identify your Seamaster’s exact reference and follow its matching OMEGA manual: crown positions and date-setting methods vary by model. The steps below apply only to a specific three-position crown arrangement, not every Seamaster.
Find the instructions for your exact Seamaster
Look for the reference number on the watch or its paperwork, then locate the corresponding instructions from OMEGA. If the manual identifies a calibre, use that information to confirm you have the right procedure. OMEGA describes its operating instruction manual as “the only valid document” containing the complete instructions for the watch: OMEGA user manuals.

The example below is for a three-position crown in which position 2 adjusts the hour in one-hour jumps and position 3 sets the time. It is not a universal Seamaster procedure. For example, OMEGA’s video manual for the Seamaster Diver 300M is specifically for calibre 2500/2507: OMEGA video manuals.

Set the date and time on a three-position crown
- Pull the crown to position 2. In the cited procedure, turning the crown moves the hour hand in one-hour increments. As the hour hand passes midnight, the date changes forward or backward.
- Adjust the date, then the time zone. Use the hour jumps to reach the correct date, then set the local time zone. Follow the direction and any additional cautions in your reference’s manual.
- Push the crown to position 1. This returns it to its normal position.
- Pull the crown to position 3 to set the time. The seconds hand stops. Turn the crown until the hands show the correct time, then push it back to position 1 to resume the watch.

Secure the crown before water exposure
Check whether your model has a screw-in crown. OMEGA defines this as a crown that screws into the case to increase water resistance. For a screw-in crown, return it carefully to the case after adjustment, following the manual for your reference. OMEGA’s guidance says the crown against the case in position 1 ensures water resistance; it also advises returning the crown to position 1 after use and not handling it in water. If your crown behaves differently
- The crown positions do not match: Stop and check the manual for your exact reference or calibre. Crown positions and adjustment methods differ across Seamaster models.
- The crown resists or the watch does not respond as described: Do not force the crown. Consult the correct OMEGA manual or an authorized service provider.
- Your watch is a quartz, vintage, GMT, annual-calendar or chronograph model: Do not infer its setting method from the three-position example. Use the model-specific instructions.
