Samsung calls a multi-exercise custom workout a Workout routine. The most reliable way to create one is in the Samsung Health phone app: Home > Exercise > More > + > Create workout routine. Add and configure your exercise segments, save the routine, then open Samsung Health > Work out on your Galaxy Watch and start it.
Before you start
Samsung’s documented Wear OS instructions apply broadly to Galaxy Watch4 and newer models. Workout Routine arrived with One UI 6 Watch and was rolled out to Watch4, Watch5, Watch6 and Watch FE families, subject to software version and region. Watch7 and Watch Ultra also support Samsung Health workouts, although their menus may use newer wording.
Older Tizen watches, including the original Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch Active and Galaxy Watch Active2, should not be treated as guaranteed to support this One UI 6 feature.
- Pair the watch with the phone in Galaxy Wearable.
- Install and update Samsung Health and Galaxy Wearable.
- Keep Bluetooth enabled while the routine synchronizes.
- Allow requested activity, health, location and notification permissions.
- Enable location services for outdoor workouts that need GPS, distance or route data.
Samsung’s main workout instructions are available in its Galaxy Watch workout support guide. One UI 6 Watch availability is described in Samsung’s One UI 6 Watch announcement.

Create a Workout routine on your phone
Use the phone for a long routine because the larger screen makes it easier to review several exercises and settings.
- Open Samsung Health on the connected phone.
- Select the Home tab.
- Find the Exercise tile and tap More.
- Tap the + button, usually in the upper-right corner.
- Choose Create workout routine.
- Add the exercises in the order you want them performed.
- Configure the targets, durations, repetitions or intervals that the editor offers for each exercise.
- Name the routine and tap Save.
Samsung confirms the Home → Exercise → More → + path and presents Create workout routine alongside Create new exercise. The exact number of segments, rounds, interval types and target options can differ by Samsung Health version and exercise profile, so use only the controls shown on your device.
Leave both devices connected for a moment after saving. A routine made on the phone may not appear on the watch until Samsung Health finishes synchronizing.
Start the saved routine on your Galaxy Watch
- Wake the watch and swipe up to open the apps screen.
- Open Samsung Health.
- Tap Work out.
- Select the saved routine. If it is not in the visible list, tap Add (+) and look for it there.
- Review the start screen, target or countdown, then tap Start.
- Wait for the countdown before beginning the first segment.
During the workout, swipe right to reach the pause, resume and stop controls. Finish the routine normally so the watch can save and synchronize the summary to Samsung Health. Samsung documents the Wear OS workout flow and the watch-side Add control in its workout support guide.

Create new exercise
Use Create new exercise when Samsung Health does not list the movement you want, such as a niche gym exercise. It adds an exercise entry; it does not by itself create a multi-step sequence.
Favorites
Adding an exercise to favorites only puts that existing activity in a convenient place on the watch. It is a shortcut, not a routine.
Modes and Routines
Android’s phone automation feature, such as Exercise, Sleep or Relax modes, is unrelated to Samsung Health Workout routines.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

Samsung also documents a watch-side route: open Samsung Health > Work out, tap Add (+), and choose an exercise or create a workout routine where your software supports that option. The phone remains the better choice for building and organizing a longer sequence. Labels and placement vary by model, language, Samsung Health build and rollout stage.
What the watch records
Tracking is determined by the exercise profile and watch model. Depending on the selected activity, a workout may include duration, heart rate, calories, distance, pace or GPS-related information. Running, cycling, swimming, strength and generic exercise modes do not expose identical measurements, and a custom routine does not guarantee identical analytics for every segment.

GPS may require location permission and time to obtain a lock. A loose fit, denied permissions, battery-saving settings or an accidentally paused workout can also produce incomplete readings. Continuous heart-rate monitoring and GPS-intensive sessions use more battery.
Automatic detection is not a substitute for a routine
Samsung Health can automatically detect activities such as walking, running, cycling, elliptical, rowing, dynamic workouts and swimming, depending on the model. You can review the setting under Samsung Health > Settings > Workout detection or Activities to detect.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Automatic detection is useful for a single activity, but it will not reliably launch a planned warm-up-to-cooldown sequence. Start the saved routine manually before exercising when you need the watch to follow a specific order. Samsung lists supported detection examples in its automatic workout detection guide.
If “Create workout routine” is missing
- Update Samsung Health from your phone’s app store.
- Update the watch through Galaxy Wearable.
- Confirm that the watch is a Wear OS model, generally Galaxy Watch4 or newer.
- Use the phone’s Samsung Health app and follow Home > Exercise > More > +.
- Confirm the watch is connected to the same phone and has synchronized.
- Force-close and reopen Samsung Health and Galaxy Wearable, then restart the phone and watch.
- Consider regional or staged software availability if the option is still absent.
- If only one exercise is missing, look for Create new exercise instead.
A factory reset should not be the first response. Compatibility, updates and synchronization explain most missing-menu cases.
If the routine does not appear on the watch
- Open Samsung Health on both devices and allow synchronization to finish.
- Check that the watch is paired to the same phone used to create the routine.
- On the watch, reopen Samsung Health > Work out.
- Use Add (+) rather than checking only the favorites row.
- Restart the watch if the list remains stale.
Samsung states that exercises added in the phone app should also become available in the watch’s Workout feature, making synchronization the first thing to check.

Editing, deleting or reordering a saved routine
Samsung’s indexed support instructions explain creation but do not establish one universal edit or delete path. On your software build, management may be reached from the phone’s Exercise tile, a saved-routines list, a three-dot menu or an edit control after opening the routine. If you cannot find those controls, avoid assuming that a menu shown on another model applies to yours; check the current Samsung Health interface and its help pages.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsOne UI 6 Watch versus newer software
Watch4, Watch5 and Watch6-era One UI 6 screens may not match Watch7, Watch Ultra or later Galaxy Watch versions. Samsung has rolled the capability out by generation rather than promising one identical interface everywhere. The feature name may remain Workout routine while the button location or wording changes.
For model and companion-app context, see Samsung’s Galaxy Watch companion-app guide and its One UI 6 Watch overview.
Does this require a new Galaxy Watch?
No. If your Watch4 or newer has the required Wear OS and One UI Watch update, try the routine feature before considering an upgrade. A newer watch may offer different sensors, battery life or outdoor hardware, but it is not required merely to create a Samsung Health Workout routine.
Health-data limitations
Workout measurements are activity and device estimates, not a medical diagnosis. Samsung’s health-feature notices explain that relevant heart-rate software is not intended to diagnose or treat medical conditions. Seek professional medical advice for health concerns.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I create a routine entirely on the watch?
Samsung documents Samsung Health > Work out > Add (+) as a watch-side route where supported. The phone workflow is usually easier for adding and reviewing several segments.
Will automatic detection start my saved routine?
No. Automatic detection recognizes supported individual activities; start a planned multi-exercise routine manually.
Does a routine work with a non-Samsung Android phone?
Availability depends on the watch, Galaxy Wearable, Samsung Health version, phone compatibility and region. Samsung does not guarantee identical menus on every phone brand.
Why are some measurements missing from one segment?
Metrics depend on the selected exercise profile. GPS, permissions, fit, battery-saving settings and the available sensors can also affect the recorded data.
