To size a metal watch bracelet, first identify how its links are joined and follow the instructions for that exact watch. Screw links, push pins, pin-and-collar links, and model-specific systems use different methods; pushing a pin out of an unidentified bracelet can damage it. If the clasp has micro-adjustment, try that for a small fit change before removing links.
Identify the bracelet before choosing a tool
Check the watch’s manual or the manufacturer’s support guide for your model. Look at the bracelet and clasp for arrows, screw heads, or other markings, but do not assume that appearance alone identifies the mechanism. Manufacturer instructions describe several distinct systems, and their steps are not interchangeable.

- Screw links: Use a correctly fitting screwdriver and the watchmaker’s instructions. Longines warns that a poorly fitting driver can mar a screw head.
- Push-pin links: Some bracelets use pins pushed out with a compatible pin tool. Follow the arrows and directions specified for the bracelet.
- Pin-and-collar links: These include small collars that can be lost during removal. Keep each link’s parts together.
- Model-specific connections: For example, Seiko’s new link removal system has its own included tool and connecting parts. Use its instructions rather than a generic pin-removal method.
If you cannot identify the system or obtain the correct instructions and tool, have a watchmaker or other qualified professional size the bracelet.
Try clasp micro-adjustment for a small change
Some clasps let you move the spring bar to another hole, changing the fit without removing a link. This is useful for fine adjustment, but not every clasp has this feature. Garmin’s MARQ Aviator (Gen 2) manual describes repositioning the clasp spring bar and cautions that the compressed pin can move unexpectedly. Longines says its described modern clasps commonly have two or three micro-adjustment holes at roughly two-millimetre increments; that is a general statement, not a specification for every watch.

Use the maker’s method for your clasp and take care when compressing a spring bar. If the clasp does not provide suitable adjustment, proceed to link sizing or seek professional help.
Remove links with the method for your bracelet
For a compatible pin-link bracelet
Orient’s guidance for common pin bracelets describes using a bracelet holder or adjuster, a pin tool, and a hammer. On the bracelet types covered by that guide, push pins out in the arrow direction and reinstall them in the opposite direction. Arrows and construction vary by model, so do not apply this procedure unless the watch’s instructions confirm it is appropriate.

Withings gives different, model-specific instructions for the ScanWatch folding clasp bracelet: use a hammer, ribbed block, and pin push, and work only on links marked with arrows. It warns that altering links that are not marked can damage that bracelet and is not covered by its warranty.
For screw links
Use the screwdriver size and procedure specified by the watch’s maker. A driver that does not fit the screw head properly can damage it. Do not try to push out a screw link as if it were a pin.

For pin-and-collar links
Follow the maker’s instructions for removing and replacing both the pin and collar. Orient notes that collars are small and easy to lose; Longines also distinguishes push-pins with collars from screw-bars. Keep each set of parts together and stop if you are unsure how the collar should seat.
For Seiko’s new link removal system
Use the tool and steps provided for that system. Seiko says only links marked with an arrow on the back are removable, and its tool pushes the pin in the arrow direction. Save the removed links, pins, spring bars, and tools in case the bracelet needs to be restored or resized later.

Plan link removal to keep the watch balanced
Try to preserve the clasp’s position beneath your wrist. Garmin advises removing equal numbers of links from both sides to help keep the watch centered. Treat this as a balancing guide, not a rule that guarantees a perfect fit: wrist shape and bracelet design affect how the clasp sits. Check the actual position and comfort after adjustment.

Check the fit and reassembly
After adjustment, fasten the clasp, move your wrist naturally, and check that the watch sits securely without pinching or sliding excessively. Seiko’s guide for its new link removal system says you should be able to fit one finger comfortably between the bracelet and your wrist.
Inspect the adjusted links and clasp. Seiko warns that a pin or spring bar left in the wrong position can protrude, catch on clothing, or cause injury. If any pin protrudes, stop wearing the watch until it is corrected. Keep removed links and small parts safely stored.
When to use a watchmaker
Choose professional sizing if the link mechanism is unclear, the correct tool is unavailable, a screw or pin resists movement, a collar is lost, or you are concerned about damaging the bracelet. Garmin recommends professional adjustment for its metal bracelet; Withings names a watchmaker as an option. Longines says its specified push-pin-with-collar operation should be performed by a trained certified watchmaker. Warranty coverage and service guidance vary by maker and model, so check the terms for your watch.
