How to Sync Apple Watch Health Data with Your iPhone

Apple Watch health data normally syncs to its paired iPhone automatically. Check pairing, connection, Fitness Tracking and Health permissions—and use iCloud or an encrypted backup when moving to a new iPhone.

Apple Watch health data normally appears automatically in the Health app on its paired iPhone; there is no separate “sync now” button. Check that the watch is paired, the devices can connect, Fitness Tracking and relevant Health permissions are enabled, and—if you want Health history on other Apple devices—Health syncing is turned on in iCloud.

What syncs, and where it goes

The usual path is Apple Watch sensors to the paired iPhone’s Health database, then optionally through iCloud to other Apple devices. The iPhone can also collect information from its own sensors, apps and Bluetooth accessories, so a metric in Health is not necessarily from the watch alone.

Depending on the watch model, software and region, Health may include activity and exercise minutes, steps, walking and running distance, workouts, heart-rate measurements, sleep-related information, mindfulness data, awards and other supported health or environmental metrics. Features such as ECG, blood oxygen or rhythm notifications are not available on every model or in every region. See Apple’s overview of Apple Watch data in Health for feature context. Health measurements and notifications are not a diagnosis or a substitute for medical advice.

Apple Watch-to-iPhone transfer depends on pairing and a working connection. Health syncing between multiple Apple devices is separate: those devices need internet access, compatible updated software, the same Apple Account and Health enabled in iCloud. Apple explains Health syncing and backups; a backup is a recovery copy, not the same thing as ongoing cross-device syncing.

  • 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
  • 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
  • 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
  • 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
  • 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)

Check these essentials first

  • The Apple Watch is powered on, unlocked and paired with the iPhone you intend to use.
  • The iPhone is nearby, with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled in Settings. The watch can use Bluetooth and, in some circumstances, Wi-Fi or configured cellular service; connection behavior varies. Apple’s connection guidance describes the options.
  • Both devices have sufficient battery and compatible, current software.
  • You are signed in to the intended Apple Account. For iCloud Health syncing, use the same account on each device.
  • Fitness Tracking and permissions for the categories you need are enabled.
  • For body-sensor measurements, wear the watch in a way that maintains suitable sensor contact.

Set up Apple Watch health syncing

1. Confirm the watch is paired

  1. On iPhone, open the Apple Watch app and tap My Watch, then All Watches. Confirm that the intended watch is listed. If the screen says Pairing Not Complete, tap Finish Pairing and follow the prompts. See Apple’s pairing troubleshooting steps.
  2. If it is not paired, keep the watch unlocked and near the iPhone. In the Apple Watch app, tap All Watches, then Add Watch or Pair New Watch, as shown. Follow setup and choose to set up as new or restore from an available backup. If the animation does not work, choose Pair Apple Watch Manually. Apple provides the manual pairing instructions.

2. Enable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi

  1. On iPhone, go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth on.
  2. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and connect to a network.

Check these controls in Settings rather than relying only on Control Center: its Bluetooth and Wi-Fi controls can disconnect current connections without fully turning off the radios. Some Wi-Fi networks that require a login, subscription or profile may not work directly with Apple Watch.

3. Turn on iCloud Health syncing for other Apple devices

  1. On iPhone, open Settings and tap your name.
  2. Tap iCloud, then Show All or See All, if shown.
  3. Tap Health and turn on Sync with iPhone or the equivalent option shown.

Apple’s labels vary by software release and interface; you may see wording such as Saved to iCloud. Repeat the check on the other Apple device and make sure it uses the same Apple Account and has internet access. Apple says Health data synced to iCloud is encrypted in transit and while stored there; details are in its Health data and iCloud guide.

4. Check Fitness Tracking

  1. Open the Health app and tap your profile picture or initials.
  2. Tap Devices, choose the Apple Watch, and check that Fitness Tracking is enabled.

Apple recommends this check when steps or similar movement data are not being recorded. It does not grant every app access to every category. See Apple’s guidance on missing Health data and sources.

Apple EarPods Headphones with USB-C Plug, Wired Ear Buds with Built-in Remote to Control Music, Phone Calls, and Volume
  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.

5. Allow the relevant Health categories

  1. In Health, tap Summary, then your profile picture or initials.
  2. Under Privacy, tap Apps or Devices, then select the relevant app or device.
  3. Enable permission to write the categories it should add. If an app provides separate Health controls inside its own settings, check those too.

Write permission lets a source add data; read permission lets an app access data already in Health. An app can be allowed to write workouts without being allowed to read heart-rate or sleep data. An app may not appear in Health until it requests access. Apple’s Health app permission guide explains these controls.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Verify a particular measurement

  1. Open Health and use Search or browse from Summary.
  2. Choose a category such as Activity, Heart or Sleep, then open the specific metric, such as Steps or Heart Rate.
  3. Check the chart and recent entries for the expected date and time.
  4. Scroll to Data Sources & Access to see which devices and apps supplied that type of information.

Checking the source is useful when a value looks wrong: the data may be present, but a different device or app may be taking priority for that metric. Health’s source controls are documented in Apple’s Health data guidance.

Fix missing or delayed data

No Apple Watch data appears

  1. In the Apple Watch app, confirm that the watch is paired with this iPhone and finish pairing if prompted.
  2. Bring the unlocked watch near the iPhone; check Bluetooth and Wi-Fi in Settings.
  3. Confirm the watch appears in Health > profile > Devices and that Fitness Tracking is enabled.
  4. Check permissions for the affected category and inspect its Data Sources & Access list.
  5. Update both devices to compatible software, then restart the iPhone and watch and check the metric again.

Allow time for data to appear, especially after setting up a new iPhone; do not assume every update is immediate. Apple notes that some iCloud data can take several days to appear after a phone transfer in its new-device troubleshooting guidance.

  • Travel Must-Have for People On the Go: A must-have travel accessory for flights, flying, airports, air travel, airplanes, planes, international trips, cruises, and long travel days. Key gadget for your airport haul, travel accessories and must-haves.

Steps or activity are missing

  • Check Fitness Tracking, the selected Apple Watch under Health’s Devices, and whether the watch is enabled as a source for the metric.
  • Check the date range and make sure you are viewing the intended category.
  • If the watch was not worn, was powered off or did not record the activity, Health cannot recreate measurements that were never captured.

Heart-rate or another sensor measurement is missing

First check whether the model and region support the feature and whether it records periodically or only under particular conditions. Fit, skin contact, movement, tattoos, temperature and activity can affect sensor readings. A missing entry by itself does not establish hardware failure. If Health contains the measurement but another app cannot see it, review that app’s read permission.

Data is on the old iPhone but not the new one

  1. Sign in to the same Apple Account on the new iPhone, connect it to Wi-Fi and check Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Health.
  2. Check the same iCloud Health setting on the old iPhone, if available, and allow time for the new phone to download the data.
  3. Update the iPhone and watch, and complete Apple Watch pairing from the new phone.
  4. Before erasing or trading in the old phone, make a fresh iCloud backup or an encrypted computer backup if the Health data is not confirmed in iCloud.

If you moved the iPhone using a Mac or PC backup, it must be encrypted to include Health and Activity information. Apple’s transfer guidance covers this requirement. If the old phone is gone and there is no usable iCloud data or backup, Apple warns that Health and Activity content may not be recoverable; see its new-iPhone troubleshooting page.

The watch will not pair, or pairing is stuck

If the watch is still paired to an old iPhone, use that phone when possible: open the Apple Watch app, tap My Watch > All Watches, tap the information button beside the watch, then Unpair Apple Watch and confirm. Unpairing from the paired iPhone erases the watch and removes Activation Lock. Apple’s unpairing instructions explain the process. Treat this as a later recovery step, not a first-line sync fix.

If pairing is stuck on the Apple logo, Apple’s documented reset route is to hold the Digital Crown and side button together until the watch restarts, then release them. After restart, firmly press the screen or press and hold the Digital Crown, tap Reset, and pair again with the nearby iPhone. This resets the watch, so unsaved changes may be lost. See Apple’s pairing recovery steps.

Move data safely before changing phones or unpairing

Apple Watch backs up automatically to its paired iPhone when the devices are near each other. An iPhone backup to iCloud or a computer includes Apple Watch data. Depending on the data and setup, the backup can include Activity and Workout history, Health and Fitness history, awards, calibration data, watch-face customizations and app settings. Before unpairing, check that the latest measurements appear in Health; unpairing backs up the watch to the iPhone before erasing it, but unsynced changes can still be at risk. See Apple’s Apple Watch backup overview.

  • iCloud Health syncing keeps the Health database updated across supported Apple devices.
  • A backup is a recovery copy used when restoring a device; it is not a live-sync control.
  • Computer backup: encrypt it to preserve Health and Activity data.
  • Before migration: update the old devices, confirm Health syncing or make a suitable backup, restore the newest backup on the new iPhone, and finish watch pairing there.

For a watch set up through Family Setup, backup follows a separate path: Apple says it backs up directly to the family member’s iCloud account when the watch is connected to power and Wi-Fi. Details are in Apple’s backup article.

Resolve conflicting or duplicate-looking values

Health does not simply add every overlapping reading together. Apple documents a default source order: manually entered data, data from iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, then data from apps and Bluetooth devices. A newly added app or device can appear above existing sources for a category, and the higher-priority source is used when sources provide the same type of data.

  1. Open the affected metric in Health and scroll to Data Sources & Access.
  2. Tap Edit, then touch and hold the reorder control beside a source and drag it up or down. Tap Done.
  3. To stop a source from contributing to that metric, tap its checkmark on the same screen and tap Done.

Inspect source priority before deleting entries; what looks like duplication may be a priority choice rather than a failed watch sync.

Review access and protect your data

Health access is category-specific. Review Health > profile > Apps and Health > profile > Devices to see who can read or write each category, and consider the third-party service’s own privacy policy for any data it copies or processes. Apple describes HealthKit permissions and protections in its security guide; it also offers privacy information about Health data and apps.

Do not use deletion as a routine sync fix. Apple’s iCloud Health deletion controls can remove data across devices using the same synced account. If you need to review them, the path is Settings > [your name] > iCloud > See All/Show All > Health > Manage Storage > Delete Data From iCloud > Disable and Delete. Read the confirmation carefully before proceeding. Apple documents these controls in its Health data guidance.

When to contact Apple Support

Contact Apple Support if the watch remains paired but fails to provide data across multiple categories after you have checked the connection, relevant permissions, Fitness Tracking, source priority, software updates and restarts. If the problem began during migration, tell Support whether the old iPhone is available and whether you used iCloud or an encrypted computer backup; that determines which recovery options remain.
