To turn on Low Power Mode on Apple Watch, press the side button to open Control Center, tap the battery percentage, tap Low Power Mode, then scroll down and tap Turn On. You can also enable it in Settings > Battery > Low Power Mode.
Turn on Low Power Mode from Control Center
- Press the side button to open Control Center.
- Tap the battery percentage.
- Tap Low Power Mode.
- Scroll down and tap Turn On. If you see Turn On For, choose On for 1 Day, On for 2 Days or On for 3 Days.
Apple documents this route in its Apple Watch battery-life guide. Button labels can vary with language and software version.
Use Settings instead
Open Settings on the watch, tap Battery, then turn on Low Power Mode. This reaches the same feature without opening Control Center.
Turn Low Power Mode off
Press the side button, tap the battery percentage, then turn off Low Power Mode. Apple says the mode normally turns off automatically when the watch reaches 80% charge. If you selected a one-, two- or three-day duration, it follows that selected duration instead. Apple also says the watch prompts you to enable the mode when the battery reaches 10%.

What changes when it is on
Low Power Mode reduces power use by limiting some measurements, alerts and background activity. Apple’s guide, published September 25, 2025, lists these features as turned off:
- Background blood-oxygen measurements, including during sleep.
- Background heart-rate measurements, including during sleep, and collection of heart data for hypertension notifications.
- Irregular-rhythm and high- or low-heart-rate notifications.
- Always On display, double-tap and wrist-flick gestures, start-workout reminders, and Time in Daylight.
Other functions may update less often or respond more slowly: background app refresh, complications and Live Activities update less frequently; Siri can take longer; phone calls can take longer to connect; and some animations or scrolling may be less smooth.

When your iPhone is not nearby
If the paired iPhone is away, Wi-Fi and mobile-data connections, incoming calls and notifications are affected. Apple says missed calls and notifications are retrieved once an hour in this situation. Opening an app that needs data can reconnect the watch to Wi-Fi or mobile data and may use significant battery. Apple’s Apple Watch battery troubleshooting guide also warns that emergency alerts may not arrive, so do not rely on Low Power Mode for receiving them.
Workouts in Low Power Mode
Apple says heart rate and pace continue to be measured during workouts in Low Power Mode. A separate setting, Fewer GPS and Heart Rate Readings, can further extend battery use for outdoor walking, running or hiking workouts. Apple lists it for watchOS 9.1 or later on Apple Watch Series 8 and later, Apple Watch SE (2nd generation) and later, and Apple Watch Ultra and later.

That reduced-readings setting has additional trade-offs: workout alerts are off, splits and segments are not recorded, and some metrics, including current pace, are unavailable. These limitations apply to the extra workout setting, not to the basic steps for enabling Low Power Mode.
