Apple Watch has separate volume controls for alerts, Siri, and media. For louder ringtones, alarms, timers, and other system sounds, open Settings > Sounds & Haptics. For music or podcasts, adjust playback with the Digital Crown; for Siri, change Siri’s voice volume while it is speaking or in Siri settings.
Turn up ringtones, alerts, alarms, and system sounds
- On your Apple Watch, open Settings > Sounds & Haptics.
- Adjust the alert volume using the volume buttons or the slider. Apple’s guide describes the manual slider as reaching up to 100%.
On Apple Watch models that support watchOS 26’s automatic adjustment, tap Level and choose Louder, Default, or Quieter. The watch can adjust ringtone and alert volume to ambient surroundings. For a fixed volume instead, turn off Automatically Adjust Volume and set the level manually. Apple lists Apple Watch SE 3, Series 9, Ultra 2, and later as compatible models; this feature is not available on every Apple Watch.
Adjust music, podcasts, and other media
When audio is playing on the watch, turn the Digital Crown to change playback volume. You can also press the side button to open Control Center, tap the volume button, and drag the slider. This changes media playback, not alert volume.
Turn up Siri’s voice
While Siri is speaking, turn the Digital Crown to adjust Siri’s volume. To set it in advance, open Settings > Siri > Siri Responses > Voice Volume on the watch and move the slider. You can also find the setting on your iPhone in Watch app > My Watch > Siri > Siri Responses.

If your Apple Watch still sounds quiet
- Check Silent Mode. Open Control Center and check whether Silent Mode is on. Silent Mode silences alerts, although haptic notifications can still arrive.
- Check Do Not Disturb. A Focus setting such as Do Not Disturb can affect whether you hear notifications.
- Confirm you changed the right volume. Alert, Siri, and media volume have separate controls; changing one does not raise the others.
- Restart the watch if the settings look correct but the sound remains unusually quiet.
- Check the speaker port if you have Series 10 or later. Apple’s troubleshooting guidance says owners of those models can gently clear debris from the speaker port with a soft-bristle brush. Follow Apple’s current care instructions; do not apply this cleaning advice to other models based on that guidance.
Use headphones for private media listening
You can pair Apple Watch with Bluetooth headphones or speakers for media. While listening through headphones, adjust their volume from Control Center’s headphone-volume control. To limit headphone playback, open Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Headphone Safety > Reduce Loud Sounds and set a maximum level. Headphones are optional for private listening; they do not make alerts louder through the watch speaker.
