To use the JV3000’s tide and moon displays, open TIDE mode, select the relevant preset location, set its summer-time or standard-time setting, then press the upper-right C button to cycle through the available screens. The readings are reference information—not a substitute for a current local tide forecast, weather report or navigation data.
What the tide and moon displays show
The JV3000 uses Citizen caliber U812. In TIDE mode, it calculates predicted tide levels for a selected place from a built-in list; it does not use GPS or live network updates. Citizen says the Wave Tracker location list covers 203 places in 88 countries, with 18 locations in Japan. These are preset locations, not arbitrary coordinates.

The main screen combines the selected place’s time and date with an hourly tide graph. Other TIDE screens show sunrise and sunset, a moon-phase indication and lunar age, and a 24-hour tide-level view. The Japanese product announcement says the calculation also indicates high- and low-tide timing and whether the tide is rising or falling.
Set up TIDE mode
- Open TIDE mode. Press and release the middle-right B button. Use lower-right A or upper-right C to move through modes until TIDE appears and the mode hand points to it, then press B. If you do not confirm, the mode changes automatically after five seconds.
- Select the location. In TIDE mode, hold B for at least two seconds until the continent setting can be changed. Use A or C to select the continent and press B to confirm. Repeat for the country or region, then the place.
- Choose the time setting. When the daylight-saving setting appears, use A or C to select DST ON for summer time (one hour ahead of standard time) or DST OFF for standard time, then press B. Match the setting to the selected place and the date you want to check.
If the tide-mode time or calendar looks wrong, Citizen’s manual advises checking the selected place and DST setting.

Read the tide graph and switch screens
Understand the hourly graph
Each bar represents a predicted tide level at the hour’s 00-minute mark. A longer bar means the predicted level is nearer high tide; a shorter bar means it is nearer low tide. The display also identifies the level of the next high or low tide.
Cycle through the TIDE screens
While the tide graph is displayed, press and release upper-right C. The right-side display cycles through the selected-place time and date, sunrise and sunset, moon phase and lunar age, and the 24-hour tide-level view, then returns to the basic tide graph.

Improve LCD visibility
Press lower-right A in TIDE mode to illuminate the LCD for two seconds. If the hands obscure the screen, press A and C together to move them out of the way. Press both again to restore them; otherwise, they return automatically after one minute.
Use the moon information as context
The watch displays both a moon-phase indication and lunar age. Moon phase can help put spring and neap tides in context, but it does not determine a specific local tide on its own. Citizen describes lunar age as reference information, so use the selected-place tide display—and, for decisions, a current local forecast—rather than treating the moon reading as a tide prediction.

Know the accuracy and safety limits
The U812 manual says the tide graph is based on data from 2025. It warns that the displayed information does not account for terrain or weather effects and may include calculation errors. Citizen explicitly says not to rely on it as tide information for sea navigation. Check current tide and weather forecasts for the place you are visiting, and use appropriate charts and navigation instruments when safety is involved. Sunrise and sunset times are also for reference only.
Citizen identifies the UK Hydrographic Office’s UKHO Admiralty Tide Tables, the Japan Meteorological Agency’s 2025 tide-table station list, and NOAA Tides & Currents harmonic-constituent information among the source material used for tide calculations. That does not make the watch’s display a live update or a replacement for current official local information.
