Huawei announced the HUAWEI TruSense System on August 28, 2024, in Dongguan, China. It is not a smartwatch or a single health sensor, but a platform combining wearable hardware, signal processing, and algorithms. Huawei says TruSense can support more than 60 health and fitness indicators across six major body systems.
The first major global products associated with TruSense were the HUAWEI WATCH GT 5 Series, announced in September 2024. The important qualification is that TruSense does not give every Huawei watch the same sensors or capabilities: features such as ECG, blood-pressure monitoring, skin-temperature readings, and advanced health summaries depend on the model, software, market, and regulatory approval.
What is Huawei TruSense?
TruSense is Huawei’s branded health-and-fitness sensing system. It builds on the company’s earlier TruSeen technology and combines:
- Optical and electrical sensor hardware
- Materials and sensor-placement research
- Signal acquisition and processing
- Algorithms that interpret readings over time
- Huawei wearable software and the Huawei Health app
Huawei describes the platform using six characteristics: accuracy, comprehensiveness, speed, flexibility, openness, and iteration. It is intended to support both continuous monitoring and on-demand measurements.

- 24/7 HEALTH MONITORING: The Amazfit Bip 6 smartwatch provides precise, real-time monitoring of heart rate, sleep, blood-oxygen and stress, empowering you with actionable insights to optimize your health and fitness.
Huawei also says it has worked with more than 150 partners on digital-health research. That is a company-reported figure, not independent evidence that every TruSense feature has the same level of validation.
The announcement is best understood as a platform and branding launch rather than the release of a new “health-monitoring watch.” Different watches use different combinations of sensors and expose different features.
What can TruSense measure?
Huawei says TruSense covers more than 60 health and fitness indicators and spans six major body systems. Its announcement describes capabilities including:
| Platform-level capability | What readers should understand |
|---|---|
| Heart rate | Wrist-based heart-rate monitoring for everyday use and exercise |
| Blood oxygen | SpO₂ estimates that can be affected by fit, movement, temperature, and circulation |
| Blood pressure | Available only on appropriate models and subject to model-specific validation and regulation |
| Respiratory measurements | Health or fitness information derived from supported sensors and algorithms |
| Exercise metrics | Workout, training, and activity measurements that vary by device |
| Stress and emotional well-being | Algorithmic interpretations of physiological signals, not psychological diagnoses |
“More than 60 indicators” is a platform-level claim. It should not be read as a promise that every TruSense watch measures 60 or more health conditions. Huawei’s public announcement does not provide a complete, model-by-model list of those indicators.
What changed in the sensing hardware?
Huawei says TruSense uses a new “super-sensing module” and draws on research in optics, electrical engineering, materials science, sensor placement, and signal acquisition. The company says its algorithms are designed to handle differences in skin tone, wrist size, weather, and movement.

- Two year warranty against factory defects.
That is a plausible engineering strategy. Better optical hardware, improved contact with the skin, cleaner signal capture, and more capable algorithms can all help reduce noise in wearable measurements. But the existence of a new sensor module does not, by itself, prove superior clinical accuracy.
Huawei’s launch announcement says basic indicators such as heart rate, SpO₂, and blood pressure had been certified by authoritative industry bodies. It does not name every certifying organization, publish the relevant test reports, or provide enough information about sample sizes, demographics, controls, error margins, or statistical methods to independently assess the claim. Certification should therefore be treated as a specific claim about particular indicators or products, not as proof that all TruSense measurements are medically accurate in all situations.
Which Huawei watches use TruSense?
| Product | TruSense connection | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| HUAWEI WATCH GT 5 Series | Among the first major global products marketed with TruSense | Features vary by model and country |
| HUAWEI WATCH GT 5 Pro | Uses Huawei’s broader TruSense health-and-fitness system | Premium materials do not mean every medical-style feature is enabled |
| HUAWEI WATCH D2 | Launched alongside the GT 5 generation as a health-focused wearable | Its blood-pressure capabilities should be assessed separately from general TruSense claims |
| HUAWEI WATCH 5 | A later example of Huawei’s continuing TruSense-related sensing and health-summary development | Health features and report contents vary by market |
The WATCH 5 illustrates why regional checking matters. Huawei’s regional pages describe Health Glance reports with nine key indicators in one market and up to 10 in another. That difference does not necessarily mean the hardware is identical; it may reflect local software, regulatory, or product-page variations.

Huawei’s position is that TruSense improves the speed, accuracy, and comprehensiveness of wearable health tracking. The company specifically says that basic indicators including heart rate, SpO₂, and blood pressure have received certification from authoritative industry bodies.
That wording matters. It does not establish that:
- Every TruSense-enabled device has the same accuracy
- Every advertised metric is clinically validated
- The system is medical-grade across all functions
- It outperforms Apple, Samsung, Garmin, or medical equipment
- It performs equally well for every person and activity
Huawei’s separate materials discuss medical-device certification for some products, including the earlier WATCH D line. Those certifications cannot automatically be applied to every TruSense watch or every measurement.

What independent testing found
Independent testing of the WATCH GT 5 presents a more qualified picture than the launch language. Wareable’s review found generally good everyday fitness tracking and fewer problems with maximum heart-rate capture than some earlier Huawei models. However, it also observed occasional under-reading of approximately 5–7 beats per minute during demanding exercise.
That observation is one reviewer’s test result, not a universal error rate. It does show why a strong general-purpose wearable should not automatically be treated as a laboratory instrument. Rapid heart-rate changes, wrist movement, strength training, loose fit, and poor skin contact can all challenge optical sensors.

During high-intensity intervals, users who need the most dependable heart-rate data should consider a compatible chest strap. A chest strap is not automatically perfect, but it generally measures closer to the electrical activity of the heart and is less dependent on wrist contact.
TechRadar’s GT 5 review likewise described the watch as a strong mid-range health-and-fitness product while identifying software and ecosystem limitations, including the lack of contactless payments and a smaller smartwatch-app offering.
Is TruSense a medical device?
No blanket answer applies. TruSense is a consumer technology platform. Whether a particular watch or function is regulated as a medical device depends on the exact product, feature, intended use, and country.

Huawei’s own health materials state that its wearables are not necessarily medical devices, while the WATCH D line has pursued medical-device certification for blood-pressure-related functionality. Readers should check the regulatory status of the specific model in their country rather than relying on the TruSense name.
Even where a device has a certified function, correct use matters. Blood-pressure monitoring may require a particular posture, cuff position, calibration process, or repeated readings. A smartwatch reading should not be used alone to diagnose a condition, change medication, or delay medical care. An unexpected result should be repeated with an appropriate validated monitor and discussed with a clinician.
Why the Huawei Health app matters
TruSense is not only the sensor inside the watch. Its practical value depends on how readings are processed and displayed through Huawei’s software and the Huawei Health app.
Before buying, check:
- Whether the watch supports your phone’s operating system
- The current Huawei Health app requirements
- Whether the desired health feature is enabled in your country
- Whether the watch and phone must use a particular account region
- Whether your preferred payment, notification, and app features are supported
- Whether firmware updates could add or rename health functions
Huawei’s product pages warn that health-data availability can vary by country and region. This is especially important for buyers considering imported watches. A gray-market model may have different language, warranty, payment, app, certification, or account-region support from the version sold locally.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Common situations that reduce reading quality
- Loose fit: Optical sensors need stable contact with the skin.
- Rapid exercise changes: Wrist sensors can lag when heart rate rises or falls quickly.
- Motion artifacts: Running, cycling, wrist flexion, and weight training can introduce noise.
- Cold weather: Reduced circulation at the wrist can make optical readings more difficult.
- Skin and wrist variation: Huawei says TruSense was designed to address these variables, but the launch announcement does not provide enough independent data to establish equal performance for everyone.
- Feature mismatch: A watch can carry TruSense branding without including ECG, blood pressure, or every other platform-level capability.
Who should consider a TruSense watch?
A TruSense-equipped Huawei watch makes the most sense for buyers who want a traditional watch design, long battery life, broad activity tracking, and general health trends. It can be particularly appealing to runners, cyclists, and Android or iPhone users who do not need deep integration with Apple or Google services.
Best Value
- Vibrant 1.6” AMOLED Display – Large, high-res screen with smooth touch for easy navigation
- 5ATM & IP68 Water Resistance – Swim-ready and dust-resistant for active lifestyles
- Up to 14 Days Battery Life – Powerful 208mAh battery for long-lasting performance
- 101+ Workout Modes with Auto Detection – Automatically tracks common workouts for seamless fitness tracking. Advanced Health Tracking – Includes sleep coaching, SpO2, heart rate, and snore detection
- International Model No Warranty in the US. ONLY compatible with Android devices. Samsung Pay - Not Supported. NOT compatible with iPhone or iOS devices.
The GT 5 and GT 5 Pro are the clearest examples of this balance: capable fitness hardware and a substantial health feature set, combined with a less extensive smartwatch ecosystem than Apple Watch or Wear OS alternatives.
Buyers who need blood-pressure monitoring should start with the exact regulatory status and measurement procedure of the WATCH D2 or another suitable device—not with the TruSense label alone.
Who may prefer another platform?
- iPhone users: Apple Watch generally offers deeper Apple Health, notification, app, and payment integration.
- Samsung Galaxy users: Galaxy Watch is a stronger fit for Wear OS, Google services, and payments.
- Endurance athletes: Garmin, COROS, or Polar may offer deeper training analytics and broader external-sensor support.
- Users needing medical monitoring: Compare validated medical devices and local regulatory status, not just consumer-wearable specifications.
- U.S. buyers: Verify official sales and support before purchasing. Availability and feature support are not universal.
Huawei’s 2024 GT 5 pricing was reported at about £229.99 or €250 in some regions, but those figures are launch-era signals rather than a current 2026 price. Use Huawei’s official regional wearables pages for current availability and pricing.
Verdict
TruSense is more than a cosmetic name change: it represents Huawei’s effort to unify improved sensors, signal processing, and health algorithms across its wearable range. The platform has credible value for everyday activity tracking, resting measurements, and long-term wellness trends.

But Huawei’s announcement does not justify treating TruSense as universally clinical, medical-grade, or equally capable on every watch. Independent testing shows that even a strong TruSense product can struggle with demanding heart-rate changes, while software, payments, app support, availability, and health features vary by region.
The sensible conclusion is straightforward: choose TruSense for the specific Huawei watch and features available in your market, not for the brand name alone—and use a validated medical device or professional advice whenever a health decision matters.
