Huawei’s troubleshooting guidance identifies poor positioning, loose or unsuitable fit, movement, recent exercise, and irregular heartbeat as common reasons readings may be inconsistent or fail. Ordinary Huawei watches without the blood-pressure feature should not be assumed to measure blood pressure.
Which Huawei watches does this advice apply to?
Huawei’s blood-pressure instructions apply to WATCH D models. The relevant support pages cover WATCH D and D2, and some Huawei support material also includes D3. The exact prompts and strap instructions can vary by model, so use the directions shown for your watch and measurement screen.

How to take a more consistent reading
- Rest first. Sit quietly for at least five minutes before measuring if you have had a failed reading or are troubleshooting an unexpected result. Wait 30 minutes after medium- or high-intensity exercise.
- Fit the correct strap-airbag. Choose the 2-in-1 strap-airbag size suited to your wrist and make sure the assembly is installed correctly. For Huawei’s failure-prompt instructions, place the watch about two finger widths (approximately 3 cm) above the palm, away from the wrist-bone prominence, and leave room for one finger under the strap. Follow your model’s on-screen guidance if its positioning instructions differ.
- Support your arm at heart level. Sit with your feet flat. Bend your elbow about 90 degrees, support it with your other hand, and keep the watch level with your heart. Relax your wrist and palm; do not press the watch against your chest.
- Stay quiet and still. Breathe normally, do not talk, and avoid measuring in a moving vehicle or elevator.
- Repeat consistently. Measure at the same time of day when possible, using the same posture and setup. Follow the watch’s guidance on when to repeat rather than taking readings so close together that prolonged cuff pressure becomes an issue.
Common causes and what to do
The watch is above or below heart level
Huawei says a watch positioned above the heart may produce lower readings, while positioning it below the heart—or posture that puts pressure on the abdomen—may produce higher readings. Sit upright, keep both feet flat, support the bent arm, and bring the watch to heart level. Avoid crossing your legs or leaning in a way that presses your abdomen.

The strap is loose, incorrectly fitted, or the wrong size
A loose fit can prevent adequate pressure from reaching the vessels and may contribute to higher results. Check that the strap-airbag is appropriate for your wrist circumference, snug without being overtight, and installed correctly. Huawei also notes that wrist hair may affect accuracy and that tattoos or scars at the measurement site may interfere.
You moved, spoke, or measured soon after exercise
Movement and talking can interfere with measurement or cause it to fail. Keep the measurement arm supported and relaxed; after medium- or high-intensity exercise, wait 30 minutes before trying again.

Conditions changed between readings
Blood pressure varies during the day. Huawei lists factors that can affect results, including the hour after a meal, using the toilet, caffeine or alcohol, smoking, stress, bathing, temperature changes, and exercise. To make readings easier to compare, measure at a consistent time and under similar conditions rather than treating every difference as a device fault.

An irregular heartbeat or other condition affects measurement
Huawei warns that an irregular heartbeat—including atrial fibrillation or premature beats—can make readings inaccurate or cause a measurement failure. For an irregular-heartbeat error, its guidance says to wait about one to two minutes before trying again. If the alert recurs, seek medical advice rather than relying on the watch to explain it.

Huawei also lists weak pulse, severe anemia, severe arteriosclerosis, difficulty remaining still associated with certain conditions, and heart rates below 40 or above 180 beats per minute as possible reasons for failed measurements. These are manufacturer troubleshooting caveats, not diagnoses.

If this happens after the watch has been switched off or disconnected for a long time, reconnect or pair it with Huawei Health and try again.

A WATCH D2 inflation or cuff error appears
Huawei’s D2 instructions say to remove the short strap, wipe the air inlet with a soft cloth, let it dry for one to two hours, and reinstall the strap. Keep the watch dry and away from household chemicals. After excess liquid exposure, Huawei says to dry the watch and leave it aside for 24 hours.

Incorrectly installed or damaged components—including the airbag, pump, or air pipe—can cause inflation errors. Check the assembly and use only parts compatible with your specific model and wrist size. If cleaning, correct reinstallation, repeated attempts, and a software update do not resolve the fault, contact an authorized Huawei service center. Replacing a component is appropriate only when it is actually damaged or unsuitable; it will not fix a posture problem.

Does a Huawei Watch need manual calibration?
No manual pressure-sensor calibration is required for WATCH D according to Huawei Support: “The watch will automatically calibrate the pressure sensor on a regular basis, sparing you the hassle of having to do so manually.” That statement is specific to Huawei’s WATCH D guidance; do not assume the same feature or calibration process applies to every Huawei watch.
When to seek medical advice
Do not conclude that the watch is faulty—or that you have a medical condition—from one unexpected number. Recheck your technique and compare readings taken under consistent conditions. If readings remain concerning, or an irregular-heartbeat alert repeats, discuss the results with a healthcare professional. Differences between home and hospital readings can also reflect stress and position.
