Huawei Watch D2 Launch: 24-Hour Blood-Pressure Monitoring and EU MDR Certification

Huawei says the Watch D2 supports scheduled 24-hour blood-pressure monitoring, including during sleep, and that its BP and ABPM features have EU MDR medical-device CE certification. Its readings are for reference only, and availability and features vary by region.

The HUAWEI WATCH D2 supports an on-demand 24-hour blood-pressure monitoring plan, with scheduled readings while awake and asleep and summaries for daytime, night-time, and the full day. Huawei describes it as an oscillometric wrist monitor with a mechanical airbag in the strap, and says its blood-pressure and ABPM features have medical-device CE certification under the EU Medical Device Regulation.

Those are manufacturer claims, not proof that the watch replaces medical diagnosis, treatment, or a clinician-directed monitor. Huawei says its readings are for personal reference only and should not be used as a basis for diagnosis or treatment; local availability and feature support also vary.

What Huawei says the Watch D2 does

Huawei describes the Watch D2 as a wrist-based ambulatory blood-pressure monitor. Its official product page says the strap contains a 26.5 mm mechanical airbag and that the device uses the oscillometric method. Huawei also says the airbag is removable and replaceable.

During a 24-hour monitoring plan, the watch takes readings at scheduled intervals, including during sleep. Huawei says users can view average systolic and diastolic blood pressure for daytime, night-time, and the full 24-hour period. This is scheduled monitoring, not continuous measurement every second.

How often does the 24-hour monitoring plan take readings?

Huawei cites European Society of Hypertension guidance recommending measurements every 15–30 minutes, with at least 70% successful readings, including 20 daytime and seven night-time readings. These figures describe guidance cited by Huawei; they do not mean every Watch D2 session will achieve that reading count or establish device accuracy.

Huawei says posture matters during measurement. It lists wrist circumference ranges of 13.0–16.0 cm for the M-size strap and 16.1–21.0 cm for the L-size strap, and warns that measurement accuracy may be affected outside the supported 13.0–21.0 cm range.

Steps for a more suitable monitoring session

  1. Check that your wrist circumference is within Huawei’s supported range and use the appropriately sized airbag strap.
  2. Follow Huawei’s instructions for positioning the watch and holding your arm during a reading.
  3. Remain still during measurement, including scheduled readings during the monitoring plan.
  4. Review the successful-reading rate and summaries as reference information, not as a diagnosis.
  5. Ask a healthcare professional about concerning results or decisions involving medication or treatment.

What Huawei’s EU MDR certification statement covers

Huawei says the Watch D2’s blood-pressure and ambulatory blood-pressure monitoring features have medical-device CE certification under Regulation (EU) 2017/745, commonly called the EU Medical Device Regulation or MDR. Huawei’s UK product page also says the watch and two apps are three separate medical products that work together as a single unit under Article 22.

This is Huawei’s statement. The research available for this article did not independently establish a certificate number, notified body, device class, declaration-of-conformity details, or regulator database entry. The claim should not be expanded into a blanket statement that the entire consumer watch has one universal certification.

Huawei says data from the product is for reference only and should not be used as a basis for medical diagnosis or treatment. Certification does not by itself make the watch a replacement for clinical care.

Battery life and fit matter

Huawei lists up to six days of battery life in typical use and up to one day with ABPM enabled. These are manufacturer estimates, not independently tested results. A user planning a 24-hour monitoring session should account for the shorter stated battery estimate and follow Huawei’s charging guidance.

The airbag is part of the measurement system, not just an ordinary watch band. Huawei lists M and L wrist ranges and warns that measurements may be affected outside the stated range. Confirm strap fit and availability for your market before buying; the research did not verify a specific replacement-strap SKU or retailer listing.

Availability and regional feature support

Huawei says the Watch D2 is available only in selected European markets and notes that health features can depend on country or region. The product pages reviewed for this article do not establish comprehensive current retail availability or country-by-country feature access.

Before buying, confirm that the exact model is officially supported in your country, that its BP and ABPM features are available there, and that Huawei’s current phone and app requirements match your devices. Do not assume that an imported model has the same local regulatory status, support, or enabled features.

Who should consider it?

The Watch D2 may interest adults looking for a wrist-worn option that Huawei says can take scheduled blood-pressure readings over a 24-hour period, including during sleep. Buyers should be comfortable with the fit requirements, the manufacturer-stated battery limits, and the need to verify regional availability.

It should not be treated as a substitute for medical diagnosis, treatment, or a clinician’s advice. If you need blood-pressure monitoring for a health decision, ask a healthcare professional which device or monitoring method is appropriate.
