Huawei unveiled the HUAWEI WATCH GT 5 Series on September 19, 2024, in Barcelona—not on a future September 19 date. The launch introduced the standard WATCH GT 5 and the more premium WATCH GT 5 Pro as fashion-focused fitness smartwatches, alongside other Huawei products.
The series combines larger and smaller case options, Huawei’s TruSense health-monitoring platform, more than 100 workout modes, improved outdoor positioning claims, and manufacturer-rated battery life of up to two weeks on the larger models. The important buying caveat is that the standard and Pro watches are not identical, and Android and iPhone users do not receive exactly the same feature set.
What Huawei announced on September 19, 2024
Huawei presented the WATCH GT 5 family at its HUAWEI Innovative Product Launch in Barcelona. The range was positioned between a traditional watch and a full app-centric smartwatch: it emphasizes design, health tracking, sports tools, notifications, and long battery life rather than trying to duplicate the Apple Watch or a Wear OS phone experience.

The lineup has two tiers:
- WATCH GT 5: the standard model, available in 41 mm and 46 mm versions in regional markets.
- WATCH GT 5 Pro: the higher-end version, with more premium materials and additional sports functions. Huawei’s compatibility information specifically identifies golf and freediving features as Pro functions.
That distinction matters when comparing listings. “GT 5 Series” does not mean every watch in the family has the same case materials, sports tools, or battery rating. Buyers should confirm the exact model, case size, region, and included strap before ordering.
Design and sizes
Huawei’s launch presentation emphasized sharper-edged styling and a more fashion-oriented appearance. The 41 mm standard GT 5 is the smaller option for slimmer wrists or buyers who prefer a less substantial watch. The 46 mm GT 5 is the larger option and is the model associated with Huawei’s headline maximum battery claim of up to 14 days.
Case size affects more than appearance. It can change battery capacity, display dimensions, weight, strap compatibility, and comfort during sleep or exercise. A replacement band listed for the 46 mm watch should not automatically be assumed to fit the 41 mm version or a GT 5 Pro model.
Health and fitness features
The WATCH GT 5 Series introduced Huawei’s HUAWEI TruSense System, which combines watch sensors and software algorithms for health and exercise measurements. Huawei says TruSense improves the speed, detail, and breadth of its health and training results.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Those are Huawei’s product claims, not evidence of independent clinical validation. The watch should be treated as a consumer wellness and fitness device, not as a medical diagnostic instrument. Health measurements can be affected by fit, skin contact, movement, exercise intensity, device settings, software, and individual physiology.

Depending on model, region, and phone platform, the series supports features including:
- Heart-rate and other health-related measurements
- More than 100 workout modes
- Automatic workout detection for selected activities
- Running courses and running-form data
- Route-back navigation
- Cycling-related functions
- Outdoor positioning through Huawei’s Sunflower Positioning System
Huawei describes Sunflower Positioning as an improved GNSS approach intended to provide more accurate and optimized positioning for outdoor training. The available launch information does not establish a universal numerical improvement against an independent controlled benchmark, so it would be misleading to promise a specific accuracy gain.
GT 5 versus GT 5 Pro sports features
The standard GT 5 is not simply a cheaper GT 5 Pro with a different case. Huawei’s compatibility table lists golf and freediving functions specifically for the GT 5 Pro. General coverage of the range should therefore not imply that those tools are available on every GT 5 model.
Battery life: up to 14 days, but not for every model or use pattern
Huawei’s maximum battery figures are:
| Model size | Huawei’s maximum claim |
|---|---|
| 46 mm WATCH GT 5 | Up to 14 days |
| 41 mm WATCH GT 5 | Up to 7 days |
| 42 mm WATCH GT 5 Pro | Up to 7 days |
| 46 mm WATCH GT 5 Pro | Up to 14 days |
These are manufacturer maximums, not guaranteed everyday results. GPS workouts, frequent notifications, health monitoring, always-on display behavior, screen brightness, calls, music, sleep tracking, and software version can all reduce endurance. The smaller cases also have shorter headline ratings than the larger models.
The watch supports Huawei’s HUAWEI WATCH Wireless SuperCharger 2nd generation. Huawei’s accessory specifications list both the WATCH GT 5 and WATCH GT 5 Pro as compatible. It is a sensible second charger for a desk, travel bag, or bedside location, but compatibility with generic magnetic charging docks should be checked rather than assumed. The available information does not justify a claim that this charger provides faster charging for every GT 5 configuration.

Android and iPhone compatibility
The WATCH GT 5 supports phones running Android 9.0 or later and iOS 13.0 or later. Pairing requires Huawei’s HUAWEI Health app.
Cross-platform support is useful, but it is not complete feature parity. Huawei’s compatibility information identifies several differences between Android and iOS, including:
- Offline music: supported on Android but listed as unavailable on iOS.
- Quick replies and phone-linked controls: capabilities can be narrower on iPhone than on Android.
- Cycling functions: some features depend on the phone platform or a Huawei phone.
- Remote shutter: availability has Huawei-phone or platform-specific restrictions.
- Regional services: some health, payment, connectivity, and software features vary by country.
For an Android owner who mainly wants notifications, workouts, health trends, and long battery life, the GT 5 is a broad cross-platform option. iPhone owners should examine Huawei’s current feature matrix before buying, especially if offline music, quick replies, camera control, or Huawei-phone integrations are important. It is better understood as a fitness-focused Bluetooth smartwatch that works with iOS than as an Apple Watch replacement.
Availability and buying context
Huawei’s launch release said the WATCH GT 5 Series began launching worldwide from September 19, 2024, in the markets covered by that release. That date establishes the unveiling and initial launch timing; it is not a promise of current stock, pricing, warranty coverage, or official distribution in every country.
Regional pricing and configurations differ. Amazon marketplace listings have documented the watch in several non-U.S. storefronts, including Ireland, Brazil, and Mexico. That demonstrates that the product has been sold through Amazon marketplaces, but it does not prove that a particular listing is available in the United States, carries a local warranty, or comes from Huawei’s official distribution channel.

- Stunning images, smooth touch: Immerse yourself in brilliant clarity with the large 1.72-inch AMOLED display.Vacuum filling sealing technology enables symmetrical 2.0mm ultra-thin bezels, expanding screen-to-body ratio from 66% to 73%. Enjoy incredibly smooth and seamless interaction with crisp, color-accurate images, right on your wrist.
Readers comparing a HUAWEI WATCH GT 5 46 mm smartwatch should verify the seller’s country, return policy, warranty terms, included strap, charger, supported languages, and whether the listed model is the standard GT 5 or GT 5 Pro. Imported watches may pair successfully while still lacking region-specific services or local support.

Replacement straps
A 22 mm replacement strap for Huawei Watch GT 5 46 mm can be useful for changing the look, improving exercise comfort, or replacing a worn band. Check both the stated 22 mm width and the exact attachment or connector design. Do not buy solely because a listing mentions “Huawei Watch GT 5”; compatibility may differ between 41 mm, 46 mm, and Pro cases.
Spare charging setup
The official Huawei SuperCharger is the clearest compatibility choice because Huawei lists the GT 5 and GT 5 Pro among supported devices. A spare charging setup is most practical for people who travel or keep the watch in more than one location. Charging speed should be treated as a separate question from basic compatibility.
HUAWEI Health+ promotions
Some regional Huawei product pages have advertised a three-month HUAWEI Health+ membership for eligible purchasers. That type of promotion is region-specific, time-limited, and subject to the offer’s terms. It should not be treated as a permanent or universal inclusion with every WATCH GT 5.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Important limitations before purchase
- Do not confuse launch date with current availability. The documented unveiling was September 19, 2024.
- Check the exact case size. Battery life and strap compatibility vary by size.
- Confirm whether it is a GT 5 or GT 5 Pro. Golf and freediving are identified as Pro features.
- Review iPhone restrictions. Android and iOS support is not identical, particularly for offline music and phone integrations.
- Verify the country-specific specification page. Huawei says features and specifications can vary by region and may change with software updates or production.
- Use health data appropriately. Pulse-wave arrhythmia analysis and related health features may be region-limited and are described as non-medical; they are not a diagnosis.
Verdict
The September 19 announcement was real, but it is a historical launch rather than an upcoming event. The HUAWEI WATCH GT 5 Series is a long-battery fitness smartwatch family with standard and Pro models, useful sports navigation, broad Android and iOS compatibility, and meaningful regional limitations.

The standard GT 5 is the more straightforward choice for general activity tracking and smartwatch basics. The GT 5 Pro is the model to investigate for its premium construction and Huawei-listed golf and freediving functions. In either case, buyers should prioritize the local feature matrix and warranty over a headline battery number or an imported listing with unclear support.
