This review concerns the Big Bang Ferrari Carbon Red Magic, reference 401.QX.0123.VR. My-WatchSite identifies it as a 2013 model and a numbered edition of 1,000. Chrono24 gives a production range of 2012–2014, while Space City Timepieces indexes the reference across 2012–2016; those are secondary catalog ranges, not a replacement for the reference page’s 2013 on-sale date. The exact reference matters: Ferrari Big Bang watches also exist in other case materials and configurations. A listing or comparison that only says “Big Bang Ferrari” may refer to a different watch, so verify 401.QX.0123.VR before comparing specifications or prices.
Movement and chronograph: the technical centerpiece
The watch is self-winding and uses Hublot calibre HUB 1241 UNICO. The listed functions include a flyback chronograph, a 60-minute counter, and a date. Hublot’s stated specifications are approximately 72 hours of power reserve and a 4 Hz frequency, or 28,800 vibrations per hour. The manufacturer-origin description also gives a component count of 330. These are published specifications, not independent measurements of a particular watch’s accuracy, reserve, or chronograph behavior.
Carbon case, red details, and dial layout
My-WatchSite specifies a carbon-fibre case and bezel, a black ceramic caseback, and sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. Its description attributes the case to a multi-layer carbon-fibre process and says the red sapphire coloration was created by adding chemical components during material development. A dealer’s example describes a gray-toned, partially skeletonized dial beneath red sapphire crystal, with the 60-minute counter at 3 o’clock, a yellow date aperture, and Ferrari’s prancing horse at 9 o’clock. The red push-piece branding reinforces the Ferrari identity. That dealer description is useful for the visible layout, but it is not a substitute for an inspection of every example. Size and water resistance: what the specifications establish
Published diameter figures differ slightly. My-WatchSite gives 45.5 mm; Chrono24 lists 45.0 mm, and Space City Timepieces rounds the size to 45 mm. The available sources do not resolve whether this reflects rounding or different catalog data, so “about 45 mm” is the safest shorthand. A thickness measurement is not established in these sources.
My-WatchSite lists water resistance at 100 m as an original specification. That rating does not establish the present condition of a pre-owned watch: seals age, and no available source tests the water resistance of a specific example. Do not treat the original rating as permission to expose an older watch to water without a current pressure test.
Strap and completeness
The reference description lists leather straps with rubber backing in black or red and a folding buckle. A dealer listing describes a black leather strap with rubber backing. Strap color and condition can vary among listings, and the cited sources do not establish that every watch retains its original strap or buckle.

Greenleaf & Crosby’s example was described as sold out and accompanied by an original Hublot watch-winder box. That is one listing snapshot, not a standard inclusion for every 401.QX.0123.VR. Chrono24 showed 20 listings on its reference page when accessed, with visible asking prices including about US$11,950, US$12,610, US$14,374, and US$17,325, as well as higher asks for listings with different descriptions or conditions. What to verify before buying an example
Because the available listings do not establish the condition of any particular watch, assess the individual piece and its documentation rather than relying on the reference’s original specification alone.
- Confirm the reference number and match the serial documentation to the watch.
- Check the limited-edition numbering and whether the papers support the watch’s identity.
- Review service records and ask what work was performed and when.
- Inspect the carbon case, crystal, pushers, strap, and clasp for condition and damage.
- Confirm which box, papers, strap, and accessories are included in that specific sale.
- Use a reputable seller and establish what authentication or return protections apply.
- Request a current water-resistance test if water exposure matters to you.
For comparisons, match the exact reference first, then compare case material and size, movement, dial treatment, edition size, condition, completeness, and whether a quoted figure is an asking price or a completed transaction. Other Ferrari Big Bang variants are not like-for-like comparisons merely because they share the collection name.
