The 42 mm HUB4700 chronograph references reviewed here combine a skeleton display, an approximately 50-hour power reserve and a manufacturer-rated 100 m water resistance. The differences that matter most are the exact reference, bezel material, dial and strap. This is a manufacturer-specification-led review: no wrist time, fit assessment, accuracy test or independent water-resistance test was performed.
What is the Hublot Spirit of Big Bang?
Spirit of Big Bang is Hublot’s tonneau-shaped watch collection. Its 42 mm chronograph models have a self-winding skeleton movement and a distinctive openworked dial, but that does not make every reference interchangeable. Materials, dial finish and strap details vary, so check the reference on the product page and purchase paperwork before comparing specifications.
The representative model for this review is the titanium 42 mm reference 642.NX.0170.RX, specified by Hublot for the UAE market with a titanium case and bezel, HUB4700 movement and black rubber strap. Other 42 mm references below illustrate how the collection changes across materials and dial treatments.

What is the difference between titanium and ceramic models?
The 642.NM.0170.RX pairs a titanium case with a black ceramic bezel. The 642.NX.0170.RX uses titanium for both case and bezel. The distinction is specifically the bezel material; both cited references are 42 mm HUB4700 skeleton chronographs with 100 m / 10 ATM resistance and a 50-hour reserve according to Hublot. Hublot also offers the Coal Blue 642.NX.717B.RX, whose case and bezel are titanium and whose dial and strap use the Coal Blue treatment.
Those material specifications clarify what you are buying, but do not establish comparative scratch resistance, weight, or long-term durability. Hublot’s pages provide no thickness, weight or lug-to-lug dimensions for these references, so try the watch on in person to judge fit and comfort. The nominal 42 mm diameter alone cannot tell you how a tonneau case will sit on your wrist.

What does HUB4700 mean?
HUB4700 is Hublot’s designation for the self-winding skeleton chronograph movement in the cited 42 mm references. Hublot describes it as the successor to the El Primero and lists a 5 Hz frequency, equivalent to 36,000 alternations per hour. These are the manufacturer’s descriptions and specifications, not independent measurements made for this review. Hublot specifies a 50-hour reserve for the 642.NM.0170.RX and 642.NX.0170.RX, and approximately 50 hours for the Coal Blue 642.NX.717B.RX.
How water-resistant is the Spirit of Big Bang?
Hublot specifies 100 m / 10 ATM water resistance for each of the three cited 42 mm chronograph references. That is a manufacturer rating, not an independently tested result for a particular watch. The rating should not be treated as a substitute for following the manual’s instructions or checking the condition of a specific watch.

Hublot’s Spirit of Big Bang manual says: “The crown has to be unscrewed before any operation and must be screwed back in fully afterwards.” The manual identifies the screw-in crown as protection for water resistance. If you operate the crown, screw it fully back in afterward. The manual also describes the chronograph controls; follow the instructions for your watch rather than assuming operation is identical across all references.
What should owners know about winding and straps?
For a stopped self-winding Spirit of Big Bang, Hublot’s manual describes approximately ten clockwise turns of the crown for manual winding. The cited HUB4700 references have a stated reserve of 50 hours or approximately 50 hours, depending on the exact product page; the reserve is the manufacturer’s figure, not a result measured here.

Strap and clasp details are part of each reference’s specification. For example, Hublot lists Coal Blue structured rubber straps and a titanium deployant buckle clasp for 642.NX.717B.RX, while its UK page lists black structured lined rubber straps and a titanium deployant buckle for 642.NM.0170.RX. Confirm strap fit and replacement compatibility by reference rather than assuming every Spirit of Big Bang strap fits every case. Hublot provides a strap configurator on its product pages.

Yes. In a report dated 12 May 2026, T3 said Hublot added 32 mm and 42 mm Essential Taupe versions. The reported 32 mm model uses steel and the HUB1120 time-and-date movement with up to 40 hours of reserve; the 42 mm version uses titanium and the HUB4700 chronograph with a 50-hour reserve and 100 m water resistance. T3 reported production of 200 pieces of each size. This is a useful collection comparison, but it is a dated report about those Essential Taupe variants, not a specification for every Spirit of Big Bang or confirmation of current availability.

T3 reported prices of £11,700 / $14,900 for the 32 mm and £19,500 / $24,800 for the 42 mm Essential Taupe models. These are the market-specific figures in its 2026 report, not guaranteed current offers; confirm local pricing and stock with a seller.
What warranty applies?
Hublot states that watches purchased from 1 January 2026 receive a five-year international warranty. It says Hublotista membership may provide a further five-year extension subject to conditions. Do not assume ten years of coverage applies automatically: check the terms for the exact watch, purchase date and purchase channel.
Who is the Spirit of Big Bang for?
The collection is worth considering if you want a prominent tonneau case, a skeleton chronograph display and a choice of titanium or titanium-and-ceramic styling. The three 42 mm references listed above share the HUB4700 chronograph format and the stated 100 m rating, while their bezel, dial and strap specifications differ. Buyers wanting a smaller, simpler watch can consider the 32 mm Essential Taupe configuration reported by T3, but it is a steel time-and-date model with a different movement rather than a smaller version of the same chronograph.
Before buying, match the reference number to the manufacturer’s page, verify the exact strap and clasp, and confirm price, availability and warranty terms in your market. The available specifications do not establish wrist fit, movement accuracy, or independent durability; those are matters to assess with the specific watch and seller.
