What is the HYT H4 Gotham?
The H4 Gotham, reference 151-CB-03-RF-RN in specialist reporting, is a 2015 HYT limited edition. HYT’s official timeline calls it “the new generation of HYT skeleton watches” and identifies it as the first HYT piece with a case made entirely from 3DTP carbon. The edition was reported as 50 pieces.
Its black-and-red styling, open movement and unusually large carbon case give the watch a more exposed, technical look than a conventional dial watch. HYT describes itself as “the only watchmaking company to display time with fluids”; that is the brand’s own characterization.
How does the fluid-hour display work?
A colored fluid column travels around a capillary tube to indicate the hours. The display is retrograde: when it reaches the end of its scale, it returns to the starting point for the next cycle. Minutes and seconds are shown conventionally, and the watch also has a power-reserve display.

HYT says its technology uses energy from a mechanical movement to animate the fluid mechanics. In the H4, a sapphire plate takes the place of a conventional dial, leaving more of the upper movement visible. The arrangement builds on the H1’s basic display and movement concept while giving it a more skeletonized appearance.

Case, legibility and wrist fit
At 51 mm across and 17.9 mm thick, the H4 Gotham is a substantial watch. A Monochrome reviewer contrasted its diameter with the H1’s 48.9 mm case and observed that the H4’s shorter lugs and strap integrated downward helped it sit more comfortably. That is one reviewer’s impression, not a fit guarantee; wrist shape and personal preference still matter.
The open construction makes the mechanism part of the visual experience, but it also means the display is busier than a conventional dial. The fluid hour indication is the focal point, while the hands and power-reserve indicator provide the other time and winding information.
