The HYT H5 is a large mechanical watch that uses a fluid-filled capillary to display the hours: colored liquid marks the recent past, clear liquid the future, and the boundary between them indicates the present. Its caliber 501 mechanically drives the fluidic module; the liquid is a display, not the watch’s timekeeping regulator. Launch-era reports list a 48.80 mm case and prices that are historical, not current quotes.

What is the HYT H5?

The H5 is part of HYT’s fluidic-watch concept, in which a moving liquid display makes the passage of time visible around the dial. HYT’s official timeline places the model in 2020 and describes caliber 501 as proprietary and developed by TEC Group. A November 2019 launch report, by contrast, said release was planned for that month; those dates reflect different launch and timeline contexts, not a confirmed first-sale date. HYT characterized the H5 as “an esthetic and technical leap” in its official timeline entry.

How does the H5 liquid time display work?

HYT says its patented fluidic module places two immiscible fluids inside a capillary. The colored fluid represents the recent past and the transparent fluid the forthcoming future. Where the two meet—the meniscus—marks the present, and its position along the scale indicates the hour. The display therefore uses fluid to show hours, while the watch’s mechanical system supplies the movement that drives it.

In HYT’s H5 user guide, the movement drives the fluidic module through bellows fixed to the main plate. The watch is not relying on the liquid itself to regulate time: the mechanical movement powers the module that moves the liquid display.

What movement is in the HYT H5?

HYT identifies the H5 movement as the proprietary, manually wound caliber 501, developed by TEC Group. The dated launch report lists a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, 41 jewels and an approximately 65-hour power reserve. These are launch-era reported specifications, rather than a current specification sheet.

HYT H5 launch-era specifications and editions

The following two references were detailed in AJHH’s report of November 18, 2019. Its specifications and prices describe the launch-era Japanese market; they should not be read as a complete catalogue of every H5 edition.

Reference Fluid and details Case and water resistance Movement Edition and reported launch price
H02351 Green fluid; grey and green details Satin-finished stainless steel; 48.80 mm diameter, 20.08 mm thick; 50 m water resistance Manual caliber 501; 28,800 vibrations per hour; 41 jewels; approximately 65-hour reserve 25 pieces worldwide; ¥7,910,000 before tax in Japan, as reported November 18, 2019
H02353 Black fluid; black details Satin-finished stainless steel; 48.80 mm diameter, 20.08 mm thick; 50 m water resistance Manual caliber 501; 28,800 vibrations per hour; 41 jewels; approximately 65-hour reserve 25 pieces worldwide; ¥7,910,000 before tax in Japan, as reported November 18, 2019

AJHH’s November 2019 launch report says the release was planned for that month and explicitly cautions that the information reflects November 2019 and may have changed. A separate 2020 report describes a blue-fluid H5 limited to 25 pieces and gives a price of €55,000 at that time. The retailer-listed red H5 reference H02248 is another documented variant; its listing reports the same 48.80 mm diameter, 20.08 mm height, 50 m water resistance and 65-hour reserve, but does not establish current inventory. These reports do not show that the listed editions exhaust all H5 variants.

Edition or references Reported price Date and qualification
H02351 and H02353 ¥7,910,000 before tax each Japan; AJHH launch-era report published November 18, 2019. The report says details reflect November 2019 and may have changed.
Blue-fluid edition €55,000 Reported by Perpetual Passion in 2020 for a 25-piece limited edition; historical specialist-reported price, not a current retail or resale quote.

The Japanese yen figure is specific to the two references in AJHH’s dated launch report; it should not be treated as a current global price. The euro figure belongs to the 2020 blue-edition report and likewise does not establish present-day value.

Servicing the fluidic system

HYT’s H5 user guide says that replacement of the fluidic system must be carried out by a professional watchmaker approved by HYT. It is not an owner-level repair: do not open the watch or attempt to handle the fluid module yourself.
