Seiko’s 2000 Historical Collection was a seven-watch limited reissue series, released monthly from June through December under the subtitle “The Year 2000.” Its watches traced a compact route through the brand’s history, from the 1913 Laurel and railway pocket watches to King Seiko, the quartz Astron and two landmark divers. Two of the seven were pocket watches, not wristwatches.
What was the Seiko Historical Collection The Year 2000?
It was a historical reissue collection, not a current Seiko lineup. Fratello’s 2022 overview reports seven releases across seven consecutive months, while a transcription of Seiko’s period catalog records each model’s reference, movement, original list price and limited production quantity. The archived Japanese catalog is also available as period evidence.

How the collection moves through Seiko’s history
Early wristwatch and railway timekeeping
The SCVM001 looks back to the 1913 Laurel, identified as Seiko’s early wristwatch milestone. Its enameled dial and hand-wound 4S28 distinguish it within the collection. The SCVR001 takes a different route: it is a sterling-silver pocket watch based on the Type 19 railway watch of 1929, powered by the hand-wound 8L34.
A watch designed to be read by touch
The SQBR017 is the collection’s second pocket watch. Its historical subject is a tactile watch associated with a 1939 Seiko watch for visually impaired veterans. The reissue uses a 7C17 quartz movement; it should not be confused with the railway-timekeeping SCVR001, which is a separate pocket-watch reference.
King Seiko and the date distinction
The SCVN001 represents King Seiko, but its historical date needs care: the reference compendium gives 1961 as the official tribute date and identifies the specific watch represented as a 1968 56KS. The cataloged reissue uses the automatic 4S15 movement.
The quartz Astron
The SCQZ002 pays tribute to the 1969 quartz Astron. Its cataloged 9F61 quartz movement is specified at ±5 seconds per year, and the catalog describes the watch as yellow gold. The original run was 500 pieces, tying it with the SBDX003 for the collection’s smallest production quantity.

Two diver tributes
The SBDX003 and SBDX005 are both automatic divers using the 8L35, but the period catalog distinguishes them as 300m and 600m models respectively. The SBDX003 is linked to the 1965 6159 saturation diver; the SBDX005 refers to Seiko’s 1975 600m diver. Those are the catalog’s stated depth descriptions, not a basis for assuming other specifications.

The limited runs ranged from 500 to 3,000 pieces. The table’s prices are original catalog prices in yen, not current asking prices. The figures are useful for comparing how Seiko positioned the releases at the time, but they do not establish present-day availability or resale value.

- 1,000 pieces: SCVM001, SQBR017 and SBDX005.
- 2,000 pieces: SCVN001.

What is the Seiko SCQZ002?
The SCQZ002 is the collection’s November 2000 reissue honoring the 1969 quartz Astron. Seiko’s period-catalog transcription lists a 9F61 quartz movement, yellow-gold construction, ±5 seconds-per-year accuracy, a 500-piece production run and an original price of JPY 700,000. Those are historical catalog specifications; they do not indicate current stock or market pricing.
