Who is Lionel a Marca?
A trained watchmaker, a Marca brought both technical and executive experience to Breguet. The maison appointed him CEO in August 2021, after he joined Breguet in 2019 and spent nearly three decades at Swatch Group. His prior leadership roles included Blancpain and Harry Winston. Breguet said he took over operational management under president Marc A. Hayek. Breguet’s 2021 appointment announcement quoted Hayek calling him “a watchmaker in the purest sense of the word.”
In a 2021 interview, a Marca described his path from watchmaking studies in Porrentruy and early movement-assembly work to quality management, work on the Omega Central Tourbillon, and more than 20 years at Blancpain in product and operations. Monochrome’s interview provides that career context.
What did a Marca say about Breguet’s customers?
He said there was no single Breguet customer profile: interests varied by collection and market. As examples, he described Japanese customers as attentive to technical detail and the brand’s history, Korean customers as responding more to collection aesthetics, and European customers as often drawn to Abraham-Louis Breguet and horological history. His stated approach was to bring the maison closer to end customers, make boutiques more welcoming, and educate younger buyers through events and presentations. He pointed to Breguet’s partnership with Frieze as one way to communicate watchmaking beyond the traditional watch audience. In Breguet’s 2023 announcement, he said: “This partnership with Frieze is only natural: watchmaking is an art, and everyone who visits our fair will see that.” Breguet’s Frieze announcement records the partnership and quotation.
How did he describe the 2023 Type 20 and Type XX?
A Marca said the relaunch drew on Type 20 and Type XX watches Breguet had made for Only Watch in 2019 and 2021. He characterized the 2023 watches as inspired by the back catalogue, rather than as exact copies. The first release comprised two versions: the military Type 20 and the civilian Type XX. At the time of the interview, he said further variations in size and materials were planned; that was a 2023 statement, not confirmation of what is currently available.

He also explained the choice to begin in steel: it aligned with specifications associated with the French Air Force and gave the range a base model before expansion. The journalist noted that the models under discussion had an automatic movement, a larger case, and a date window compared with vintage examples. A Marca’s explanation was that Breguet was making a contemporary interpretation rather than reproducing a historical watch feature for feature. Those comparisons apply to the specific 2023 models discussed, not every Type 20 or Type XX.
The Type 20 and Type XX names distinguish the military and civilian versions in this launch. For reference-level details such as dimensions, movement, functions, and materials, check the precise watch rather than assuming every model in the family shares the same specification. Who is Breguet’s CEO now?
Lionel a Marca’s CEO title belongs to the period covered by the 2023 interview. Breguet announced Gregory Kissling’s appointment as CEO effective October 1, 2024, and identified him as CEO in a 2025 announcement. Breguet’s appointment announcement establishes the change in leadership.
