Made in one-of-one artistic interpretations with Georgian atelier David Kakabadze Enamel, the series brings three distinct treatments—Umi, Blue Horizon and Prism—to the exposed mechanical design. The result is not simply three color choices: each version uses a different enamel technique and surface effect.
A rowing-inspired clock, made vertical
La Regatta’s tall, slim silhouette takes its cue from a racing skiff. L’Epée 1839 extends that idea through the placement of the visible movement: the gear train runs along a vertical axis, with the barrel and escapement at opposite ends. The maker links this arrangement to a rower’s upright posture and to the synchronization and balance of a crew. That is the brand’s design interpretation, rather than a technical claim about how a rowing boat or crew operates.
On the Métiers d’Art pieces, the hull becomes the focus of the artistic treatment. Its enamelled surface sits alongside the clock’s exposed mechanics, setting a hand-worked decorative finish against the movement’s visible architecture. L’Epée 1839 describes the enamel work as being carried out by David Kakabadze Enamel, an atelier based in Georgia.
How the Grand Feu enamel is applied
L’Epée 1839 describes Grand Feu enamelling as a layered, hand-executed process. The enamel is fired repeatedly, with the maker giving a general firing range of 700°C to 750°C. Successive layers and firings build depth and intensity, while requiring precise work; the temperature range is a general description, not a published record of the individual firing schedule for each clock.

The three named interpretations use different approaches:
Umi: cloisonné and silver-leaf paillons
“Umi” means “sea” in Japanese, according to L’Epée 1839. Inspired by waves in Hokusai’s paintings, Umi uses cloisonné enamel, with paillons—thin silver leaves—inlaid in the background. The effect combines the wave-inspired imagery with details set into the enamel surface.

Blue Horizon: engraved pattern beneath translucent enamel
Blue Horizon returns to the clock’s minimalist silhouette and uses blue flinqué enamel. In flinqué, guilloché engraving is covered by translucent enamel layers, leaving the engraved pattern visible beneath the finish. Its defining feature is therefore the relationship between the patterned base and the enamel, not just its blue color.
Prism: translucent enamel in a metal framework
Prism uses plique-à-jour, in which translucent enamel fills a metal framework. L’Epée 1839 describes blue and green tones and a pattern that evokes changing reflections on water. The framework-and-translucency effect distinguishes it from Umi’s cloisonné and Blue Horizon’s engraved surface.

These are the manufacturer’s stated figures and material descriptions, not independent measurements. At 518 mm tall, the clock is designed as a substantial object for a surface with room to display it, rather than as a conventional wristwatch or small desk clock.

One-of-one Métiers d’Art pieces are not the standard Regatta editions
L’Epée 1839 describes the enamelled Métiers d’Art interpretations as customizable, one-of-one pieces. That edition description should not be confused with the regular Regatta collection, which the brand lists as limited to 99 pieces per color across six launch colors. The regular model’s edition count, references and retail listings do not establish the availability or price of an enamelled Métiers d’Art clock.
Displayed prices and how to confirm an order
L’Epée 1839’s official e-boutique displays customizable one-of-one Métiers d’Art listings at CHF 95,000 and CHF 99,000, both excluding VAT. These are separate displayed listings, not a single universal price for every possible configuration. Because the pieces are customizable, contact the brand to confirm which interpretation is currently orderable, the price for the chosen configuration, and availability and delivery details.
