Makina is a Filipino watch brand whose early identity centered on small-batch production, custom parts and distinctive design. Its 2017 debut introduced the Uriel and Mephisto; the brand’s official site now shows a wider range, while a separate Mephisto III GMT appeared in a 2025 report. The launch specifications below describe what was reported at the time—not a guarantee of present-day availability or final production totals.
What is Makina?
Makina is a Filipino watch brand. In its 1 June 2017 introduction, Monochrome Watches described the company’s approach as personal and design-led, emphasizing small-batch production and custom parts. That is the launch article’s account of the brand’s positioning, not an independent audit of its manufacturing practices.
Makina’s official website explains its name this way: “MAKINA means ‘machine,’ derived from the Spanish word máquina. It’s also what we call movements in our homeland, Philippines.” The site now lists model families including Cassiel, Azazel, Andras, Mephisto and Uriel, as well as a Quiccs collaboration, and describes commissioned timepieces. The original Uriel and Mephisto
Makina’s first two watches, as covered in 2017, were the Uriel and the Mephisto. Monochrome reported that each was planned as a limited run of 500 pieces. That was a production plan at launch; the available account does not establish how many watches were ultimately made.

These are specifications reported by Monochrome Watches in 2017, not results of independent testing. The Uriel is the smaller of the two and has a domed crystal; the Mephisto has a larger case and a layered blue dial. Both were described as automatic mechanical watches. What movement does the original Mephisto use?
The 2017 article identifies it only as a Japanese 21-jewel automatic movement and gives a 40-hour power reserve. It does not name the caliber, so a specific movement identification cannot be confirmed from that report.

How the Mephisto III GMT differs
The Mephisto III GMT is a later, distinct model—not a specification update to the original 2017 Mephisto. Monochrome Watches reported it in February 2025 with a 38 mm steel case, 11.55 mm height, 100 m water resistance and sapphire crystals on both sides.
Its Miyota 9075 automatic movement provides a true-GMT function: the local hour hand jumps independently, making it possible to adjust local time in one-hour increments while keeping the other time indication in place. The report lists 24 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, a 42-hour power reserve and in-house-regulated accuracy of +/-5 seconds per day. Price and availability
The February 2025 report listed the Mephisto III GMT at USD 850 and said it was available directly from Makina at that time. That is dated pricing and availability, not a current quote or confirmation of stock. Check Makina’s official site for present availability and confirm the applicable price, shipping, taxes, import costs and warranty before ordering.
