The Fratello × Straum Jan Mayen Limited Edition is a 2023 collaboration built around a stamped, lava-red fumé dial and a 39 mm stainless-steel case on an integrated bracelet. Its design takes inspiration from Beerenberg, the volcano on the Norwegian island of Jan Mayen; the original preorder was a one-week 2023 release, not an ongoing offer.
Why Fratello and Straum made a Jan Mayen watch
Fratello contributor Dave Sergeant said the project developed with Norwegian watchmaker Straum over roughly 12 months, following the brand’s Opphav. The collaboration drew on an expedition to Jan Mayen and the striking volcanic profile of Beerenberg. Sergeant described the watch as “inspired by the Beerenberg, the volcano that dominates the skyline on the approach to the island of Jan Mayen.” Fratello published the launch feature on April 6, 2023.

What is Beerenberg?
Beerenberg is the volcano at the northeastern end of Jan Mayen. Fratello’s 2023 launch feature gives its elevation as 2,277 meters above sea level; that is the figure reported in the feature, rather than a newly verified measurement.
How the lava-red dial was made
The dial is stamped brass, finished in a lava-red fumé gradient. Fratello’s launch account describes a textured, glossy, metallic appearance developed through repeated prototype and manufacturing refinements. The surface and changing red tones are the visual link to Beerenberg’s volcanic landscape; this is not simply a flat red dial.

Case, bracelet and dimensions
The watch uses a 316L stainless-steel case measuring 39 mm across, 45.82 mm from lug to lug, and 11.3 mm thick including the crystal. Those dimensions make the case diameter only part of the fit picture: the lug-to-lug measurement gives useful context for how much wrist space the case spans, while the integrated bracelet means it is designed as a joined case-and-bracelet configuration.
The crystal is double-domed sapphire with five internal anti-reflective coating layers. A screw-down sapphire display caseback carries a Fratello engraving. The integrated steel bracelet closes with a push-button butterfly clasp. Water resistance is rated at 10 ATM, or 100 meters, according to the 2023 launch specifications. Monochrome Watches independently reported the principal dimensions, integrated bracelet and 100-meter rating.
Movement and functions
Inside is the automatic La Joux-Perret G101, with 24 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), and an approximately 70-hour power reserve. It has hacking seconds and no date position. The display is limited to hours, minutes and central seconds, keeping the dial free of a date window.

2023 preorder terms and later Jan Mayen models
The original Fratello edition was offered for preorder from April 13 through April 20, 2023. Fratello listed a historical launch price of €1,600 excluding VAT and said the configuration would not be produced again after the preorder window. Hodinkee reported a US launch price of $1,725. These are historical launch prices, not current quotes.

The 2023 steel collaboration should not be confused with later Jan Mayen variants. Straum’s press index lists later Jan Mayen titanium and other editions; their existence does not mean those watches share this collaboration’s steel case, integrated bracelet or dial specification. The original preorder has ended, and current retail or resale availability has not been established here. The launch coverage stated a two-year international warranty at release.
