The 2025 Zenith Defy Extreme Lapis Lazuli pairs an openworked chronograph dial with natural blue lapis lazuli, whose pyrite flecks make each stone dial distinct. Reference 06.9200.9004/51.I001 is a 50-piece limited edition in polished stainless steel with yellow-gold details. Its El Primero 9004 movement uses separate escapements for timekeeping and chronograph measurement, with the chronograph reading to 1/100th of a second.
What is the 2025 Defy Extreme Lapis Lazuli?
ZENITH announced the watch on November 19, 2025, as a limited edition of 50 pieces. The exact reference is 06.9200.9004/51.I001. Its openworked dial incorporates lapis lazuli, a natural stone with shimmering pyrite inclusions; the variation in those inclusions means no two dials are alike, according to ZENITH’s product release.
The case and bracelet are polished stainless steel. Microblasted yellow gold accents the dodecagonal bezel and pusher protectors, setting warm metal against the blue stone and exposed movement. This is a large, substantial sports chronograph: ZENITH’s 2025 technical sheet specifies a 45 mm case, 15.4 mm thickness, 51 mm lug-to-lug measurement and 20 ATM water resistance. Those dimensions are useful context if you are considering fit; the case is not a compact alternative to a conventional dress chronograph.
How does the El Primero 9004 measure 1/100th of a second?
The automatic El Primero 9004 separates timekeeping and chronograph timing across two independent escapements. The timekeeping escapement runs at 5 Hz, or 36,000 vibrations per hour; the chronograph escapement runs at 50 Hz, or 360,000 vibrations per hour. That faster chronograph frequency underpins the 1/100th-second measurement, with a central chronograph hand making one full rotation each second.

The displays are arranged around the openworked dial: small seconds at 9 o’clock, a 30-minute counter at 3, a 60-second counter at 6, and a chronograph power-reserve indicator at 12. ZENITH lists a 50-hour power reserve for the watch. The brand describes the 9004 as the only regular-production mechanical chronograph capable of measuring to 1/100th of a second; that is ZENITH’s claim, not an independently established comparison.
Price and what comes with it
ZENITH’s 2025 technical sheet lists launch prices of CHF 32,900, EUR 34,900 and USD 33,900. These are launch figures, not a guarantee of current pricing in every market. The brand said the watch would be available through its boutiques, online and authorized retailers worldwide; that announcement does not establish present stock. Monochrome Watches reported the same launch prices in its November 21, 2025 coverage.

The Lapis Lazuli II, announced July 7, 2026, is a separate follow-up rather than a renamed version of the 2025 steel-and-gold watch. The most visible difference is where the stone appears: the original incorporates lapis lazuli into its openworked dial, while the II uses lapis lazuli in counters within its openworked dial. The II also replaces the original’s steel case and yellow-gold accents with a forged-carbon-and-titanium case.
