The green-dial Alpina Alpiner Extreme Automatic California Dial, reference AL-525GRG3AE6, pairs a California-style mix of Roman and Arabic numerals with a 39 mm-class stainless-steel case, an automatic movement and a black rubber strap. Alpina’s US product page listed it at $1,995.00 when accessed in 2026; that is US-market information, and price and availability can change.
What is the Alpina Alpiner Extreme Automatic California Dial?
Alpina names the model “Extreme Automatic” and identifies the green California-dial version as reference AL-525GRG3AE6. The California layout combines Arabic and Roman numerals, dashes and triangles. Alpina says the dial design was first trademarked in 1941; that date and the design description are the manufacturer’s product-page claims.
On this version, Alpina pairs the green dial with beige luminous hands and hour markers. The mixed numeral layout is the defining visual feature, rather than a conventional dial using only Arabic or Roman numerals.

- The Alpiner Extreme Automatic is a 41 x 42.5mm rugged sport watch.
- At the heart of the design, a strong brushed-finish cushion case featuring a black dial with a date window at 3 o'clock and a see-through case-back.
- The integrated black rubber strap (with no joining link with the case), made of textured rubber offers as much comfort as strength and modernity.
- The rubber grip allows for ease of handling with bare hands or with gloves.
- WR to 200M.
Movement and everyday functions
The AL-525 is an automatic mechanical movement. Alpina explains that an oscillating weight winds the spring through the wearer’s arm motion. The watch displays hours, minutes and seconds, with a date function; Alpina specifies a 38-hour power reserve for the California model.
What the water-resistance rating means
Alpina lists the watch at 20 ATM, equivalent in its specifications to 20 bar or 200 m. This is the manufacturer’s rating, not an independently verified test result. The rating alone should not be treated as a guarantee of performance in every real-world water condition.
