Alpina’s Heritage Automatic is a compact, vintage-inspired line with two 38 mm references: a beige dial with Arabic numerals, and a two-sector beige-and-silver dial with mixed markers. Both use the automatic AL-520 movement, but their dial layouts—and the current prices shown on Alpina’s regional sites—differ. “Accessible” is relative to luxury-watch pricing, not a claim that the watches are inexpensive by every standard.
What the Alpina Heritage Automatic is
Alpina announced the Heritage Automatic for Geneva Watch Days in 2024, with availability expected in October that year. Hodinkee reported a launch price of $1,795 for either version; that is a dated launch figure, not a current price quote. (Hodinkee, August 29, 2024)
Alpina presents the design as a restoration of aesthetics from the 1920s through the 1940s. Its US listing describes a compact 38 mm case, dauphine hands, and a solid-coloured caseback. (Alpina US)
How the two references differ
| Reference | Dial and markers | Current regional listing price |
|---|---|---|
| AL-520BG3SH6 | Beige dial with 12 Arabic numerals | $1,895 on Alpina’s US site, checked October 8, 2026 (Alpina US) |
| AL-520SBG3SH6 | Two-sector beige and satin-gray/silver dial; Arabic numerals and baton markers | £1,595 on Alpina’s UK site, checked October 8, 2026 (Alpina UK) |
The all-Arabic version puts numerals around the dial in a straightforward layout. The two-sector model adds contrast and mixes numerals with batons. Alpina’s UK description also specifies dauphine hands and a railway minute track. These are distinct treatments of the same vintage-inspired idea rather than differences in case size. (Alpina UK; Hodinkee)
#1 Best Overall
- The Seastrong Heritage model is inspired by the 1960’s professional diver design, a beautiful re-issue of this historic model. This timepiece features an automatic movement with a 60-minute internal rotating bezel. It also has a textured rubber strap, vintage white and black dial, screw down crown and an engraved caseback to protect the movement from everyday elements.
- 300M water resistant with uni-directional turning 60m diving bezel
- AL-525 Caliber - Automatic Self-wind Movement, 26 jewels, 38 Hours Power Reserve
- 42mm Case Diameter with Polished Stainless Steel Case
- Scratch Resistant Sapphire Crystal
The prices above are regional listing prices in different currencies and markets; they should not be read as a direct like-for-like comparison. The 2024 launch price is likewise not a substitute for checking the relevant current listing.
Shared size, movement, and construction
- Case: Both references are listed at 38 mm in diameter and 10.15 mm thick. The AL-520BG3SH6 US listing specifies stainless steel; Alpina’s UK listing for AL-520SBG3SH6 specifies 316L stainless steel. (Alpina US; Alpina UK)
- Movement: Alpina identifies the automatic movement as AL-520, based on the SW200. Hodinkee describes it as an Alpina-prepped Sellita SW200-1. Alpina’s UK listing gives a 38-hour power reserve, 26 jewels, and 28,800 alternations per hour (4 Hz); Hodinkee also reports hours, minutes, and seconds. (Alpina UK; Hodinkee)
- Strap width and material: The US listing gives a 19 mm lug width for AL-520BG3SH6. The UK listing gives a 19 mm strap-lock width for AL-520SBG3SH6 and describes calf leather with crocodile-pattern embossing. Confirm the fit and attachment against the exact reference before choosing a replacement strap. (Alpina US; Alpina UK)
Water resistance and everyday use
Alpina’s US listing calls the beige-dial AL-520BG3SH6 splash resistant, while its UK listing gives the AL-520SBG3SH6 a 3 ATM rating. Those descriptions do not establish that either watch is suitable for swimming or showering, so do not treat them as a water-activity recommendation. (Alpina US; Alpina UK)
