The AMIDA Digitrend Open Sapphire is a limited-edition mechanical watch that shows the time through the side of its case. Its sapphire upper case reveals the hour and minute discs, while a sapphire prism directs their display toward the wearer. GPHG lists the June 2025 model as a 150-piece edition with an automatic movement, a 44-hour power reserve and 50-metre water resistance.
How the Digitrend Open Sapphire displays the time
This is not an electronic digital watch or a conventional watch face. Hours and minutes appear on discs viewed from the edge of the case. A sapphire prism refracts the display toward the wearer, and the Open Sapphire’s transparent upper case makes the discs and surrounding mechanism visible.
The design follows the original Digitrend, introduced in 1976. The 1916 Company describes that watch as part of the era’s mechanical digital designs, in which hour and minute discs were read through a prism at the case edge. The new model retains that side-reading idea with modern case construction and an automatic movement. The 1916 Company’s account of the Digitrend provides further historical context.
Movement and key specifications
Fratello identifies the movement as the Soprod Newton P092, an automatic calibre with manual winding and a module developed for jumping hours and scrolling minutes. GPHG lists automatic winding and a rate of 28,800 alternations per hour; Fratello gives that rate as 28,800 vph. Both sources state a 44-hour power reserve.

The dimensions are close but not identical across the two launch sources, so the thickness is best read as source-dependent rather than a single settled figure. Water resistance also differs: GPHG and Fratello both state 50 metres, while Perpetuel’s product page states 30 metres. For the published launch specification, the corroborated 50-metre figure is the stronger one, but owners should follow the documentation supplied with their watch.
Edition, launch dates and prices
GPHG lists the model as launching in June 2025 and gives a tax-included price of CHF 4,900. Fratello’s June 17, 2025 launch coverage reports CHF 4,500 excluding VAT. OPENERS lists a September 2025 Japanese release at ¥960,300 including Japanese tax and describes a first-year limit. These are different source- and market-specific launch/listing figures, not directly interchangeable prices.

The limited edition is identified as 150 pieces by both GPHG and Fratello. Launch figures do not establish today’s retail price, resale value, stock or availability. Check with an authorized seller for current local pricing and taxes.

The name refers to the transparent sapphire upper case that exposes the discs and mechanism. Sapphire also remains part of the time-reading system: the prism refracts the display toward the wearer. In other words, the watch’s open appearance and its side-facing readout are related but distinct features.
