It draws on the military-issued DTU-2A/P, but the #3061 itself is described as a civilian version—not as the issued military watch. The name now covers a vintage original and distinct modern reissues, so specifications depend on which generation and variant you mean.
What watch did Steve McQueen wear in Bullitt?
Benrus says its Series #3061 appeared on McQueen’s wrist in Bullitt (1968). That gives the model its film association, but it is important to separate the watch seen in the movie from today’s reissues: a modern #3061 is a later interpretation, not the original screen-worn watch.
Benrus describes the original #3061 as a civilian version of its military-issued DTU-2A/P field watch. That connection explains the watch’s utilitarian lineage; it does not establish that the civilian Series #3061 was itself issued to military personnel. BENRUS’s current collection page gives the brand’s account of the model’s history.
What is a Benrus Series #3061?
It is a field-watch design that bridges a 1960s civilian model and newer Benrus releases. Fratello describes the vintage watch as a 34 mm, manually wound model with a red-tipped seconds hand and Benrus-logo caseback. That account is secondary reporting; the historical details should not be mistaken for a complete period specification sheet.

The name also applies to more than one modern release. The 2022 reissue covered at launch and the collection Benrus identifies as a 2025 reissue differ in movement and other specifications. Current collection options include BU, GT, BOR and 250th variants, so check the exact reference before relying on a measurement or feature.

The clearest change is scale: Fratello’s account puts the original at 34 mm, while both modern generations are 39.5 mm across. The movement changed too—from a manually wound vintage watch to the Soprod automatic in the 2022 release and the ETA 2892 Benrus specifies for the current collection. The 2022 crystal and water-resistance figures are not specifications for the current GT.

What does the current 3061 GT offer?
Benrus identifies the GT as model 3061-SS-G-039-02. Its product page lists a 316L stainless-steel case, 39.5 mm diameter, 47 mm lug-to-lug length, 9.95 mm height and 20 mm lug width. It specifies a double-domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, BG W9 Super-LumiNova, a date, an ETA 2892 movement and 10 ATM water resistance. The page also lists an orange leather strap and an open sapphire caseback.
The GT’s 20 mm lug width is useful if you are considering another strap: Benrus lists compatible fabric, leather, nylon, rubber and metal options. Treat the fit measurement as GT-specific rather than assuming every #3061 variant has the same lug width. Benrus describes the collection as Swiss made and gives it a two-year warranty.
