Bremont connects Felix with U.S. Navy aviation, particularly VFA-31, the “Tomcatters,” whose insignia features the character. That context is Bremont’s account of the connection.
How the aviation details work into the design
The MB design references Bremont’s partnership with Martin-Baker, the ejection-seat manufacturer. Bremont describes an inner soft-iron anti-magnetic ring, a protective anti-shock movement mount and an inner bidirectional Roto-Click bezel. The loop at the tip of the seconds hand is intended as a visual reference to an ejection-seat pull handle.
