The De Bethune DB28xs Kind of Blue Tourbillon, reference DB28XSTB, was announced on 3 September 2025. It pairs the brand’s polished, blued grade 5 titanium design with a 38.7 mm case and a hand-wound movement whose tourbillon cage completes one rotation every 30 seconds and indicates those intervals at 6 o’clock.
What is the DB28xs Kind of Blue Tourbillon?
De Bethune describes the DB28xs as a tourbillon version of the 39 mm DB28 Kind of Blue. The new model’s case measures 38.7 mm across, so the “xs” designation does not mean a drastically smaller watch; its stated diameter is close to that of the earlier model. The launch announcement is dated 3 September 2025, and the reference is DB28XSTB. De Bethune’s press announcement and official product page identify the model and its specifications.
Case and design
The case is polished, blued grade 5 titanium, 38.7 mm in diameter and 8 mm thick. De Bethune also specifies floating titanium lugs, a sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective coating, and a screwed case back. The blue titanium treatment continues the visual language of the Kind of Blue family, while the open tourbillon at 6 o’clock makes the movement’s regulating assembly a prominent part of the dial.
Movement and functions
The hand-wound calibre DB2009V7 contains 238 parts and 36 jewels. It runs at 36,000 vibrations per hour and uses a self-regulating twin barrel to provide a stated five-day power reserve. Its listed functions are hours, minutes and a 30-second indication provided by the tourbillon cage at 6 o’clock. These figures are De Bethune’s published specifications, rather than independent measurements. The brand’s technical specifications provide the detailed reference document.

What the 30-second tourbillon indicates
A conventional tourbillon cage commonly makes one rotation per minute. On this calibre, the cage rotates once every 30 seconds, and De Bethune assigns it an indicating function: its motion provides the 30-second indication at 6 o’clock. It is therefore both a regulating mechanism and a visible elapsed-time display, not a separate seconds hand listed among the functions.
De Bethune says the titanium tourbillon assembly comprises 63 components and weighs 0.18 grams. The brand’s construction post gives those assembly figures. They describe the tourbillon assembly, not the complete movement.

How it differs from the DB28 Kind of Blue
The clearest documented distinction is the tourbillon: De Bethune identifies the DB28xs as a tourbillon version of the 39 mm DB28 Kind of Blue, while the DB28xs has a 38.7 mm case and its cage turns every 30 seconds. The available official description does not provide a complete side-by-side specification set for a particular earlier DB28 Kind of Blue reference, so further differences in thickness, calibre or other details should not be assumed.
