The Grand Seiko SBGA461 and SBGA463 are closely related 200m Spring Drive dive watches. Both use caliber 9R65 and share the same 44.2mm diameter, 14mm thickness, approximately 72-hour power reserve and stated accuracy of ±15 seconds per month. The defining difference is the case material: stainless steel on the SBGA461 and high-intensity titanium on the SBGA463.

What changes with titanium?
SBGA461: stainless steel
The SBGA461 is the option for someone who specifically wants a stainless-steel case. Its core specifications match the titanium model, including the 44.2mm diameter, 14mm thickness and 200m water resistance.
SBGA463: high-intensity titanium
The SBGA463 uses high-intensity titanium. Grand Seiko Boutique describes it as about 30% lighter than stainless steel; that is the manufacturer’s comparison, not an independent measurement. The lighter case does not make the watch smaller: its published diameter and thickness match the SBGA461.

Movement, reserve and legibility
Both references use Grand Seiko’s Spring Drive caliber 9R65. Grand Seiko states an approximately 72-hour reserve and accuracy of ±15 seconds per month for each. Their shared movement and core diver specifications mean the model choice is not a choice between different movement or water-resistance ratings.
Grand Seiko describes the SBGA461’s marker layout as a legibility aid: the 12 o’clock marker is a triangle, the 6 o’clock marker is a rectangle, and the remaining markers are circles. The SBGA461 specification lists LumiBrite on the hands, indexes and bezel. For the SBGA463, the Grand Seiko Boutique listing identifies LumiBrite at all twelve hour indexes and says the watch complies with ISO 6425:2018. Those are brand descriptions; they should not be read as independent assessments of visibility or certification testing.
Which model should you choose?
- Choose the SBGA463 if lower weight is the priority. Grand Seiko Boutique says its titanium case is about 30% lighter than steel.
- Choose the SBGA461 if you specifically prefer stainless steel. The documented difference is material rather than a change in movement, dimensions or water resistance.
- Consider fit before choosing either. Both are 44.2mm wide and 14mm thick. Those dimensions do not establish how either watch will sit on a particular wrist, so try one on if possible.
- Compare local pricing and availability. Check current authorized-retailer listings in your market and account for the watch’s condition when evaluating a specific offer.
There is no evidence-based universal winner between the two: the useful dividing line is whether you want the steel case or the manufacturer-described lighter titanium one.
