Its two faces give the watch contrasting roles: one foregrounds decorative craft, while the other exposes the movement’s technical work. The documented pink-gold and white-gold versions pair that mechanism with different lacquer treatments.
What is the Reverso Hybris Artistica Calibre 179?
It is an elaborate expression of the Reverso: a swivelling case with two dials, two time-zone displays and Jaeger-LeCoultre’s multi-axis Gyrotourbillon. The design draws on Art Deco styling, but its defining contrast is functional as well as visual—the watch presents a crafted dial on one side and a more openly technical view on the other. Jaeger-LeCoultre introduced the Calibre 179 model in 2023, according to Richemont’s 2024 Business Review.
The name refers to a specific movement and design, not necessarily every later watch bearing the Hybris Artistica label. Jaeger-LeCoultre’s PressLounge archive lists a Calibre 179 presentation in April 2025 and a separate Pegasus presentation in May 2026; details of one variant should not be assumed to apply to another. See the Reverso PressLounge archive for those release entries.
How does its Gyrotourbillon work?
The Calibre 179’s central spectacle is a tourbillon built with two distinct motions. Jaeger-LeCoultre says the Gyrotourbillon contains 123 components: its inner cage completes one rotation every 16 seconds, while the peripheral carriage makes one full rotation per minute. These are separate rotational cycles, not two descriptions of a single rate.

- 40mm stainless steel case
- 8 inch stainless steel bracelet
- Blue dial
- Mineral Glass lens
- Water resistant up to 50 meters
The movement as a whole is larger than that assembly. Jaeger-LeCoultre lists 382 components and 46 jewels for Calibre 179, alongside a 40-hour power reserve and a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz). It is manually wound. The 123-component figure describes the Gyrotourbillon, not the entire calibre. The maker’s pink-gold Q39424E3 product page gives the movement specifications.
Does it show two time zones?
Yes. The two dials display different time zones, and the reverse dial includes a 24-hour indicator for the second zone. That makes the reversible case more than a way to protect or reveal a decorative surface: turning it over also changes which time display is in view. The 24-hour indicator helps distinguish day from night for that second time zone.

What is different about the pink-gold and white-gold versions?
Jaeger-LeCoultre’s US product pages document two treatments. Both are identified as Reverso Hybris Artistica Calibre 179, but they differ in case metal and lacquer color:
| Reference | Case | Lacquer treatment | Official product page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Q39424E3 | Pink gold | Black and grey | Jaeger-LeCoultre US |
| Q39434E1 | White gold | Dark blue | Jaeger-LeCoultre US |
The manufacturer describes the lacquer as hand-applied. The colors above are the treatments shown on those official US pages; they should not be generalized to every later Hybris Artistica presentation.

How much hand-finishing goes into it?
Jaeger-LeCoultre attributes approximately 14 hours of bevelling to the Gyrotourbillon cage and eight hours to a distinctive bridge on the reverse. Those figures refer to the named components and finishing operations, not the total time required to make the watch. The watch’s appeal rests on the conjunction of this handwork with an unusually animated mechanism.
Lionel Favre, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Head of Design, describes the concept as: “Centered around the innovative Gyrotourbillon, the Reverso Hybris Artistica is the pure expression of the ingenuity of our watchmakers, combined with our mastery of traditional crafts.”

What does it cost, and is it available?
Jaeger-LeCoultre’s official US product pages do not publish a current price or confirm local stock; they direct interested readers toward a boutique visit or private viewing with the brand’s sales associates. Availability and price therefore need to be checked with Jaeger-LeCoultre or a retailer for the specific reference and market.
For historical context only, Fratello Watches reported a US$565,000 price for the white-gold Q39434E1 in its 2025 coverage. That is a dated publication figure, not a verified current asking price. See Fratello’s 2025 article.
