Its original release was salon-only: Kurono offered it in person at its Aoyama and Shanghai salons from 22 August 2025. The official product page now lists it as sold out, and current resale availability and pricing are not verified.
What makes the vermilion dial distinctive?
Kurono describes the dial as vivid orange-red vermilion, a color it connects with power, nobility, protection from evil, good luck, fire and purification. The brand also points to vermilion’s use on torii gates, urushi lacquer and samurai armor. The color is central to the watch’s identity, not simply a routine dial-color option.
Kurono founder Hajime Asaoka says his workshop tested prototype dials by placing them at a south-facing atelier window, with half the dial covered by black tape. In his account, the exposure lasted about 40 days in summer or 60 days in winter, which he equates to more than 10 years of normal exposure. He says most pigments failed the comparison and that selenium red and vermilion were the two vivid orange pigments that passed. These are Asaoka’s descriptions of the development process, not independently verified laboratory findings. Kurono Tokyo’s product page reproduces his account.
Case, movement and specifications
Kurono specifies a polished 316L stainless-steel case, sapphire box crystal and calf-leather strap. The brand says this model uses its slim Mk.2 chronograph case, designed to reduce the visual impression of thickness around the NE86 automatic chronograph movement. The 20 mm lug width is the useful fit measurement if considering another strap; it does not by itself establish that any particular aftermarket strap will suit the watch. Original availability, price and purchase terms
The Vermilion Chronograph was released on 22 August 2025 and was available only in person at Kurono’s Aoyama and Shanghai salons. Kurono’s listed original prices were JPY 598,950 including tax in Aoyama and RMB 29,300 including tax in Shanghai. These are historical offer prices, not current resale values. The official product page currently marks the watch sold out.

For the original salon purchase, Kurono stated that buyers needed a valid account, could purchase one watch, and had to pay in full when ordering. The terms also specified strictly non-refundable payment. Those terms describe Kurono’s original sale and do not establish the terms of a later resale. The watch is most compelling for someone drawn to a saturated orange-red dial and a compact-diameter automatic chronograph with an explicitly documented original salon release. Its 46.8 mm lug-to-lug length and 20 mm strap width offer more useful fit context than diameter alone. Buyers should also weigh the maker-specified 3 atm water-resistance rating against their intended use rather than assuming a broader water-use capability.
