Thermo Fisher’s official product information reviewed here does not establish a product called “Niton Prima.” The name appears to combine two distinct instruments: the Niton line of handheld X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyzers, including the Niton XL5 Plus, and the Prima PRO, an online process mass spectrometer. They serve different measurement jobs and should not be treated as one product.

Is there a Thermo Scientific product called Niton Prima?

The available official Thermo Fisher pages identify Niton handheld XRF analyzers and a separate Prima PRO process mass spectrometer; they do not verify a model named “Niton Prima.” The name alone therefore is not enough to identify an instrument or support specifications, availability, or buying advice.

Thermo Fisher describes the Niton XL5 Plus as a handheld XRF analyzer. Separately, it describes the Prima PRO as an online process mass spectrometer and process gas analyzer for industrial gas-composition analysis. These are distinct product descriptions, not two names for the same device.

What does a Niton handheld XRF analyzer do?

Handheld XRF is used to analyze solid materials in field or other on-site workflows. Thermo Fisher lists Niton-family applications including alloy identification, precious-metal identification and recycling, mining and exploration, environmental screening, soils, and coatings. These are family-level examples; they should not be read as specifications or guaranteed capabilities of an unspecified “Niton Prima” model. See Thermo Fisher’s overview of handheld XRF applications.

What does the Prima PRO do?

That is a process-monitoring context, not the handheld analysis of solid metals or other materials associated with Niton XRF analyzers.

What to confirm before relying on a “Niton Prima” listing

  • Ask for the exact manufacturer model name and product documentation; do not assume “Niton Prima” is an official name.
  • Check whether the instrument is intended for handheld analysis of solid materials or online gas measurement in an industrial process.
  • Confirm configuration and geography with Thermo Fisher or an authorized seller before relying on availability, performance, or price claims.
