Introduced in November 2024, the Ressence Type 9 brought the brand’s orbital time display to its first 39 mm watch. The original Grey and Aqua editions pair a 39 mm Grade 5 titanium case with a crownless design and the self-winding ROCS 9 system, which displays hours and minutes without conventional central hands.
What is the Ressence Type 9?
The Type 9 is Ressence’s compact, hours-and-minutes collection. Its defining feature is ROCS 9—Ressence Orbital Convex System—an arrangement in which the dial indications rotate rather than remaining fixed like conventional watch hands. The minute indication is read against the fixed bezel. Ressence says ROCS 9 is driven by the minute axle of a customized and reinforced 2892/2 base calibre. The brand frames the changing display as part of its approach to time and art. Ressence attributes this statement to Jules Wittock: “A Ressence adds a fourth dimension to the canvas: time, the artwork keeps changing. It appears differently with every glance.” It is an expression of the concept, not a technical description of how the mechanism performs.
How did the Type 9 launch—and what is in the collection now?
The 2024 launch: Grey and Aqua
Ressence introduced the Type 9 in November 2024 as its first 39 mm model. The original colors were Grey and Aqua; contemporary launch coverage said Grey would be available from November 2024 and Aqua would follow in February 2025. The reported launch price was CHF 12,500 before tax. Those dates and that price describe the launch, not a current offer. Later editions and the current listing
Ressence’s collection listing, accessed 8 October 2026, showed four models: TYPE 9 G and TYPE 9 A, corresponding to Grey and Aqua, and artist editions TYPE 9 JWB and TYPE 9 JWE. The displayed prices and stock labels are a snapshot of that changing, potentially localized commercial page—not a guarantee of availability or a universal market price.

What does the Type 9 display and how do you operate it?
Hours and minutes, not a conventional hand layout
The watch indicates hours and minutes through ROCS 9’s rotating dial elements, with the minute track on the stationary bezel. This gives the face its unusual motion while keeping the information to two indications.
Winding and setting from the caseback
The Type 9 has no conventional crown in Ressence’s description. Winding and setting are performed by rotating the caseback, which turns in two directions. Because this differs from standard crown operation, use the official Type 9 manual and video guidance for reading, winding, setting and changing the strap rather than relying on improvised instructions.

Which Type 9 edition should you consider?
The meaningful distinctions are the dial and edition, the price and availability where you live, and strap material. Grey and Aqua are the original variants; the official listing also shows the later JWB and JWE artist editions. The available information does not establish that one edition wears better or performs better than another.
