What does Calibre 2968 do?
Calibre 2968 is a selfwinding movement displaying hours and minutes, with a flying tourbillon visible through the dial opening. AP’s specifications list a 50-hour power reserve, 33 jewels, 226 parts, a 29.6 mm diameter and 3.4 mm thickness. Its frequency is 3 Hz, or 21,600 vibrations per hour. These are published specifications rather than independently tested performance figures.
AP’s general explanation says a tourbillon is intended to enhance accuracy by reducing gravity’s effect on the regulating organ, while also making the mechanism visible. How does this version fit into the RD#3 line?
AP says the white-gold 37 mm model draws on the 37 mm and 39 mm stainless-steel RD#3 watches released in 2022. It describes the RD#3 37 mm as its first selfwinding flying tourbillon offered in that diameter. The earlier steel watches are useful context, but the available official material does not establish enough detail for a full specification-by-specification comparison with this reference. The broader Royal Oak history is distinct from this model’s specifications: AP says the original, designed by Gérald Genta, debuted in 1972 with a 39 mm case, octagonal bezel, Tapisserie dial and integrated bracelet. Those original dimensions should not be confused with the 37 mm white-gold RD#3.
