What is the new Credor Locomotive?
The GCCR997 is the green-dial Credor Locomotive announced by Seiko on February 5, 2025. Seiko described it as the start of a new design series within Credor, inspired by the Locomotive’s distinctive design. Its key visual change is a patterned green dial, set within a high-intensity titanium case and bracelet. Seiko said worldwide availability would begin in May 2025; that is the announced launch timing, not confirmation of current stock.
The collection’s name refers to a driving force: Credor says “Locomotive” is a French term meaning “driving force,” inspired by an advancing train and intended to embody Genta’s vision of propelling Credor and Seiko into the future. Credor’s official Locomotive collection page explains the name.
Is the new Credor Locomotive designed by Gérald Genta?
Seiko credits Gérald Genta with designing the original Locomotive, released in 1979. The GCCR997 is presented as a new watch in a series inspired by that design; Seiko’s announcement does not describe it as a newly designed Genta watch. The distinction matters: the modern model carries forward the original’s design language, while the documented Genta attribution applies to the 1979 original. How does the 2025 Credor Locomotive compare with the 2024 limited edition?
The GCCR999 and GCCR997 are separate watches, not alternate names for one release. Seiko announced GCCR999 in 2024 for Credor’s 50th anniversary; GCCR997 followed in 2025 as the first model in a new Locomotive-inspired design series.

Seiko notes that the GCCR997’s published specifications and price were current as of its release and subject to change. What does the Locomotive’s return mean?
